Police on alert for today's bandh
Ranchi:
Jharkhand Police
are on alert across the state over Sunday's bandh call by Maoists against the death of its central committee member (CCM) Vivek alias Karam Kranti and seven others in a gunfight with the security forces in Bokaro's Luggu hills on April 21 under 'Operation Kagar'.
The bandh has been called in Jharkhand,
Bihar
, North Chattisgarh, West Bengal, and Assam.
Police sources said intelligence inputs were being collected and area domination operations held in sensitive areas. Vigil in public and strategic installations has been increased.
Inspector general (operations) Michal Raj said, "Police are on high alert to prevent violence in view of the Maoists bandh. The Maoist influence has declined significantly in the state.
They are mainly concentrated in Chaibasa-Saranda area."
Railway Police Force officials said surveillance is under way on railway properties, including tracks.
Maoist are present in Palamu, Latehar and Hazaribag-Bokaro border. Senior Maoists including politburo member Misir Besra and CCMs Asim Mandal and Anal Da are in Saranda while CCM Shahdeo is in Hazaribag-Bokaro border.
