MARTA Selects CDM Smith to Design the Largest Bus Rapid Transit System in the State of Georgia
Atlanta, May 30, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CDM Smith was selected by the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to design the Clayton County Southlake Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Alignment and Airport Connectivity project. CDM Smith and its partners will design approximately 15 miles of BRT with an elevated guideway into Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The effort is MARTA's largest BRT project to date. This project will greatly improve Clayton County residents' access to job opportunities and education and will open doors for further transit-oriented development in the area. Direct premium transit service to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and MARTA's rail system will greatly contribute to the local and regional economies. Planning and design work is funded by the one-cent sales tax approved by Clayton County voters in 2014. The project has submitted an application for a Small Starts grant award from the Federal Transit Administration's Capital Investment Grants (CIG) program. The current project budget is $355.6 million. In service of its goal to provide premium transit service throughout the county, the BRT system design will include an elevated guideway, elevated bus stations, and a pedestrian bridge connector to the airport terminal and MARTA train station. The design phase of this project will take two years to complete. Construction is estimated to take place from 2028 through 2030. 'We brought experience from our successful BRT project portfolio and remained focused on MARTA's goals and Clayton County's needs to create the right team to design this BRT,' said CDM Smith principal Chuck Deeb. Trump Exempts Jordan from U.S. Foreign Aid Cuts - Jordan News
Trump Exempts Jordan from U.S. Foreign Aid Cuts Reuters reported that U.S. President Donald Trump has decided to exempt Jordan from the sweeping foreign aid cuts announced last January, confirming continued support for the Kingdom with an annual funding package of no less than $1.45 billion, including military assistance and direct budget support. اضافة اعلان According to Reuters sources, the decision came after an intensive round of diplomatic negotiations between Amman and Washington, which led to the resumption of aid flows within just two months of the announced cuts. The sources noted that this move placed Jordan on a 'more solid financial footing' despite the initial shock. Jordan ranks fourth among the top recipients of U.S. aid, following Ukraine, Tel Aviv, and Ethiopia. This reflects the strength of the strategic relationship between the two countries, particularly in matters of regional security, intelligence cooperation, and the hosting of U.S. forces on Jordanian soil under a defense treaty. The water desalination project between Aqaba and Amman, overseen by CDM Smith under the supervision of USAID, had its funding frozen before payments resumed in March, according to four informed sources. The project is estimated to cost around $6 billion and is considered one of the most vital initiatives for achieving water security in the Kingdom. Despite the continued freeze of a portion of aid designated for the education and health sectors—amounting to approximately $430 million annually—researchers and insiders confirmed that Washington has prioritized protecting funding related to security, defense, and water, due to its strategic importance. In a related context, U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed that Jordan's military aid remained untouched, praising Jordan's role as a strong regional partner. She noted that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio decided to continue military funding to all beneficiary countries following a comprehensive aid review.

Trump exempts Jordan from US foreign aid cuts
Reuters reported that US President Donald Trump has decided to exempt Jordan from the wide-ranging foreign aid cuts he announced last January, affirming continued support for the kingdom with annual funding of no less than USD 1.45 billion, including military assistance and direct budget support. According to more than 20 sources who spoke to Reuters, this decision came after an intensive round of diplomatic negotiations between Amman and Washington, which helped restore the flow of aid within just two months of the cut announcement—placing Jordan, as described by the sources, on a 'more solid financial footing' despite the initial shock. Jordan ranks fourth among the top recipients of US aid, after Ukraine, Tel Aviv, and Ethiopia—reflecting the strength of the strategic relationship between the two countries, particularly in regional security and intelligence cooperation, in addition to hosting US forces under a defense treaty. The Aqaba-Amman desalination project, overseen by CDM Smith under a contract with the US Agency for International Development (USAID), had its funding frozen before payments resumed this past March, according to four informed sources. The project, valued at around USD 6 billion, is considered one of the kingdom's most vital initiatives for achieving water security. Although part of the aid allocated to the education and health sectors—estimated at USD 430 million annually—remains frozen, researchers and experts confirmed that Washington was careful to protect funding related to security, defense, and water due to its strategic importance. In this context, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce confirmed that Jordan's military aid had not been affected and praised Jordan's role as a strong partner in the region.
