Iloilo City under state of calamity due to impact of enhanced 'Habagat'
The Iloilo City Council has approved in its regular session on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, a recommendation made by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) to place the city under a state of calamity.
The declaration, according to the Iloilo City Government, was made following 'assessments on the impacts of the southwest monsoon (Habagat), enhanced by tropical cyclones Crising, Dante and Emong that recently affected the city.'
It was cited that the basis for the recommendation is the 'total exposed population to flooding and storm surge, based on 2024 Philippine Statistics Authority data, which is 240,304.'
In addition, it was cited that 'fifteen percent of the forecast affected population, based on science-based projection, is 38,062.'
Based on the CDRRMO Situation Report as of July 28, 2025, the population affected due to flooding reached a total of 44,723, while at least 12,158 were affected by storm surge. Total affected population as of July 29, 2025 reached a total of 56,881.
