CHAN 2024: Sudan vs Congo – Preview & Score Prediction
Sudan open their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign on Tuesday against Congo Brazzaville, hoping for a strong start in what is widely seen as the tournament's most competitive group.
The match kicks off at 3 pm Morocco time (GMT+1) at Aman Stadium in Zanzibar, Tanzania, and fans can catch the action live on BeIN Sports, Canal+, and Supersport.
Head coach Kwasi Appiah has named a squad composed entirely of domestic league players, but Sudan will be without star forward Mohamed Abdelrahman and likely also captain Ramadan Agab, both sidelined through injury.
Despite a disrupted training camp and limited preparation – just three sessions before the opener – Appiah is banking on momentum. Sudan recently qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and are hoping to carry that spirit into CHAN.
Congo, meanwhile, return for their fifth CHAN appearance and will look to improve on their recent form, having failed to win a match in the 2022 edition.
Sudan's best CHAN finishes came in 2011 and 2018, reaching the semi-finals both times. However, they have not won in open play since 2018 and are winless in their last four matches at the finals.
Congo's record in tournament openers is a pattern of narrow margins—each of their past four openers ended 1-0, with two wins and two losses. They have also failed to score in their last three CHAN fixtures.
Score Prediction:
MWN expects a cautious start, settled by a moment of individual quality.
