PCMC's property tax collection in first quarter stands at Rs522cr

1 2 3 Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has achieved record-breaking property tax collection in the first quarter of the 2025-26 financial year. This is largely due to the effective use of data from its "City Hub for Data Communication" (CHDC) project. In the first 90 days, the PCMC has collected Rs522 crore towards property tax, which is over 50% of the total tax revenue earned in the last fiscal year. Last year, the civic body reached the Rs500-crore-mark only by Oct. Launched earlier this year in Feb, the CHDC project is touted as the first-of-its-kind in India. It empowers the municipal corporation to analyze data and implement data-driven solutions. Civic officials claim that only New York (United States of America) and Tel Aviv (Israel) have similar projects effectively implemented so far. The CHDC has enabled data-driven planning, real-time analysis of defaulters, and the identification of area-specific tax response patterns. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Avinash Shinde, assistant municipal commissioner and head of the PCMC's property tax department, said the civic body used data to segregate taxpayers who historically preferred to pay their dues at the end of the financial year instead of paying it every quarter. "The frequency of reminder messages to these property owners was increased from April with information about additional discounts like 10% concession on general tax for online payment and 2% more for paying their dues in time for three consecutive years. This helped us push them to pay their dues quarterly," he said. "Strategic planning by the tax department, use of data through the CHDC, door-to-door delivery of bills via self-help groups, and effective public communication have all contributed to crossing the Rs522 crore mark in record time," municipal commissioner Shekhar Singh said. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation sets record with Rs 522-crore property tax collection in 90 days

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has registered a record revenue collection by netting Rs 522.72 crore in property tax within the first quarter (April 1 to June 30) of the 2025–26 financial year. This is the first time the PCMC has crossed the Rs 500-crore mark in just 90 days, officials said on Tuesday. The significant rise in early payments was driven by a host of well-planned incentives and robust outreach. To encourage timely compliance, PCMC had announced multiple rebates valid up to June 30, including a 10 per cent concession on general tax for online payers. Over 4.12 lakh property owners availed of these benefits, resulting in record-breaking revenue, the property tax department said. A major contributor to this success was the PCMC's City Hub for Data Communication (CHDC) initiative, which enabled data-driven planning, real-time analysis of defaulters, and area-specific tax response patterns. 'This milestone is not just about revenue numbers—it reflects the growing trust and cooperation of Pimpri Chinchwad citizens. Strategic planning by the tax department, use of data through CHDC, door-to-door delivery of bills via self-help groups, and effective public communication have all contributed to crossing the Rs 522-crore mark in record time. I congratulate our tax-paying citizens, dedicated staff, officers, and the SHG women for this collective success,' Shekhar Singh, Municipal Commissioner, PCMC, said in a statement. Pradip Jambhale Patil, Additional Municipal Commissioner, PCMC, said the response to rebates announced until June 30 was phenomenal. 'Citizens were kept informed through tele-calling, digital messaging, and social media. The 10 per cent online rebate especially encouraged digital payments. We remain committed to further strengthening this momentum through transparent and citizen-friendly governance,' Patil added. Avinash Shinde, Assistant Commissioner (Tax), PCMC, said that the corporation had set a target to maximise tax collection in the first quarter. 'Along with outreach efforts, we mapped and followed up with defaulters from the past two years. Special arrangements were made to keep all 18 ward-level counters open even on public holidays in the last week of June. The collective effort of every team led to this remarkable outcome,' Shinde said. In FY 2021–22, the first-quarter collection stood at Rs 171.85 crore In FY 2022–23, it rose to Rs 253.65 crore In FY 2023–24, the figure surged to Rs 454 crore In FY 2024–25, it was at Rs 440 crore Now, in FY 2025–26, the collection has touched a new high of Rs 522.72 crore as of June 30 Women property owners: 17,459 Ex-servicemen: 4,023 Persons with disabilities: 1,897 Gallantry award recipients: 9 Environment-friendly properties: 24,869 Advance payers: 40,934 Online payers: 3,23,239 Wakad: 65.11 Thergaon: 47.52 Chikhali: 39.35 Kaspate Vasti: 37.60 Kiwale: 34.23 Bhosari : 33.95 Chinchwad: 33.03 Pimpri-Waghere: 32.84 Moshi: 30.53 PCMC headquarters : 28.22 Sangvi : 27.09 Akurdi: 24.33 Charholi: 16.37 Dighi-Bopkhel: 17.84 Talawade: 12.90 Nigdi Pradhikaran: 12.77 Fugewadi-Dapodi: 18.49 Pimpri Nagar: 4.24 Over Rs 380 crore collected through online payments Rs 30.63 crore via cash counters at 18 ward offices Rs 34.49 crore collected on June 30 alone Multiple modes such as RTGS, cheques, and cash

US surgeon operates on patient in Angola remotely

One of the promises of robotic surgery is that distance between doctor and patient will be no barrier to a successful operation. — AFP A cancer patient in Angola recently underwent the first robotic surgery on the continent conducted remotely by a surgeon in the United States, according to the hospitals involved. The prostatectomy – partial or complete removal of the prostate – on June 14 (2025) was also the first in the world to be done over such a distance, they said. It was 'successfully performed' by urologic surgeon Dr Vipul Patel, who is also the medical director at AdventHealth Global Robotics Institute in Florida, US. 'The procedure spanned nearly 7,000 miles (11,000 kilometres), making it the longest distance telesurgery ever completed,' AdventHealth said in a statement on June 19 (2025). The Complexo Hospitalar Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento (CHDC) in Angola's capital Luanda said it was 'the first teleassisted surgery performed in Angola and on the African continent'. A multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, engineers and a member of Dr Patel's team was present in the operating block, the CHDC said. The surgery 'went well', the hospital's director Carlos Alberto Masseca said. Three days after the procedure, the patient Fernando da Silva, 67, went home to recover. Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for men in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the Global Cancer Observatory. Many countries on the continent, including Angola, have limited access to early detection and specialised surgical care. The procedure is a 'stunning breakthrough, not just technologically, but in advancing global health equity,' said Dr Patel. 'It marks a critical step toward delivering high-quality surgical care to remote, rural and underserved communities that have long lacked access. 'This is more than innovation, it's a humanitarian leap forward.' – AFP
