Yuba County crash results in fatality on State Route 65

( — A vehicle crash resulted in a fatality on State Route 65 at McGowan Parkway in Yuba County on Wednesday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol Yuba-Sutter responded to a traffic incident involving a vehicle that overturned on the freeway in Yuba County. When crews arrived at the scene, they found a 2015 Toyota Camry with significant rollover damage on the right shoulder of southbound SR-65. CHP Yuba-Sutter stated that a witness stopped to cut the driver's seatbelt of the Toyota to free him from the vehicle and attempted lifesaving measures before emergency crews arrived. Many paramedics and firefighters arrived at the scene and carried out life-saving efforts, according to CHP Yuba-Sutter. The driver of the Honda, an 18-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, and it was determined that a black Honda Accord was also involved in the crash. Officer shoots dog after being attacked in West Sacramento CHP Yuba-Sutter reported that their preliminary investigation indicates the Toyota was trying to pass the Honda in the center divider of SR-65. The Honda turned left while the Toyota was passing, causing the driver of the Toyota to lose control. After losing control, the Toyota entered a clockwise spin, veering out of control to the right shoulder, colliding with McGowan Parkway over the crossing embankment, and overturning multiple times, stated CHP Yuba-Sutter. According to authorities, alcohol or drugs were not factors in this crash. SR-65 southbound was closed at SR-70 for about three hours to allow crews to investigate and remove the damaged vehicles. The Yuba County Sheriff-Coroner will release the name of the decedent once the next of kin have been notified. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
