But a message has appeared on the chain's website announcing it has shut down. The reason for the decision is unknown. The note reads: "Zizzi Glasgow west end is now closed. "We've now closed the doors to our Glasgow west end restaurant. "Your nearest Zizzi? Try Glasgow Princes Square or Glasgow Silverburn - we'd love to see you there." Disappointed locals flocked to the comments to react to the news. One wrote: "What a shame." Another said: "How sad, I'm sorry it has gone." A third added: "OMG." It comes as Scotland's hospitality and retail sectors continue to struggle with both businesses and punters feeling the squeeze from rising costs. The industry was hammered by closures during the Covid-19 pandemic and was immediately dealt another blow by supply issues and the cost of living crisis. Beer giant BrewDog recently announced the shock closure of ten bars across the UK. Italian chain Gusto revealed it will shut six venues across the UK, scrapping almost 200 jobs in the process. Bosses revealed it is on the brink of administration after facing financial difficulties.

But bosses have now revealed that one of its venues in Glasgow will officially shut next week. Staff have said that customers have only a week left to visit their restaurant at George Square, located in the heart of the city centre. They will pull the shutters down for good on the evening of Saturday, August 16. According to Glasgow World, the decision comes after a mutual agreement with the building's owners. The closure will allow bosses at Assaggini to focus on their other venues, including those in Edinburgh and their other branch in Glasgow.
