Barcelona dynamic duo finishes among world's most influential players

Barcelona's golden generation is making waves on the world stage once again. According to the 506th edition of the CIES Football Observatory rankings, two of the club's brightest young stars, namely, Pedri and Lamine Yamal, have been named among the top three most influential players in global football. Advertisement The report, which studies players from 60 leagues worldwide, placed Liverpool's Mohamed Salah at the top, with Lamine Yamal in second and Pedri in third. This recognition is another sign of how strong Barcelona's project under Hansi Flick is turning out to be, with young talents stepping up and delivering consistently on the pitch. How are players ranked? The ranking is based on six specific areas of play, with data gathered exclusively by Impect. These areas include aerial play, ground defence, distribution, attack, chance creation, and finishing. Each player's influence is determined using a combination of their performance in these categories, the number of minutes they've played, and the results their teams have achieved. Although Salah and Pedri did not top any individual category, their balanced and consistent displays helped them earn their places among the best. Advertisement Yamal, meanwhile, stood out for his exceptional ability to create chances, ranking highest in that particular field. Who are the rest? Other top performers across categories included Alexander Sörloth (aerial play), Moisés Caicedo (ground defence), Nico Schlotterbeck (distribution), Vinicius Jr. (attack), and Ousmane Dembele (finishing). Raphinha, another Barcelona forward, was also recognised and ranked eighth overall, underlining the club's attacking depth. This recognition comes during a season where Barcelona's young players have taken centre stage. Yamal and Pedri, both still very young, continue to show maturity well beyond their years, carrying the club's footballing identity into the next era.

Few would have imagined he would have achieved this level of success last summer, when he was deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester United and joined Napoli in a £25 million deal. And this index score from the CIES perhaps just underlines his impressive statistics. Each score a player receives is based on six performance areas including: aerial play, defence, distribution, take on, chance creation and finishing. The amount of minutes played and results are also taken into consideration. McTominay has an index score of 88.1, putting him in the top five attacking midfielders. That means he is rubbing shoulders with the likes of Liverpool target Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen. The 22-year-old comes out on top with a score of 93.6. Chelsea's Cole Palmer is second on 92.4; Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham is third on 90.0; and Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala is fourth on 89.6. McTominay is ahead of the likes of Arsenal's Martin Odegaard (84.8); Manchester City's Bernardo Silva (85.1) and his potential future team-mate Kevin De Bruyne (81.1) who is linked with a move to Antonio Conte's side. Scott McTominay dances with old fan while puffing on cigarette as never-ending Napoli title party continues McTominay eclipsed all of his former Man Utd team-mates. Infact, Bruno Fernandes (81.0) is the only United player who makes the list of 300, highlighting how poor the English Premier League outfit have been this season. Of the six categories, McTominay's best attribute is his finishing but he also scores very well in his aerial play - the top three in the category of 50 players. Liverpool's Mo Salah recorded the highest score overall (100), with Barcelona's teenage star Lamine Yamal (99.6) coming second. Liverpool and former Celtic defender Virgil Van Dijk came out on top in defence, and Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, who looks like he on his way to Real Madrid, is first in the wing-back category. Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe is the top forward, with a score of 92.3. The French star has 31 goals in 34 games in La Liga this season but missed out on the title to rivals Barcelona. He edges out Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres (89.2) who has had a fantastic campaign in Portugal, with 39 goals in 33 league games. The Swede has been strongly linked with Arsenal. Celtic rocket to European chart toppers in key area as Rodgers reveals internal dressing room message

It is your latest news bulletin on the Scottish champions all in one place Kasper Schmeichel has put Celtic on the map after taking gold in a major goalkeeping stat across Europe's top leagues. The veteran Hoops No. 1 - making his way back from an injury with hopes of making the Scottish Cup Final - has been a key player for club and country this term and has had a huge say in Brendan Rodgers and Co lifting two trophies so far with a third eyed up. ‌ It's been a season to remember for the 38-year-old, who is under contract for next season, and he's scored top spot in a goalkeeper chart when it comes to accurate long passes. ‌ CIES Football Observatory have compiled the stats for the highest percentage of long passes across Europe's top divisions with the Dane top of the standings with 68.5%. His nearest rival comes from FC Basel keeper Marwin Hitz on 64% with Man City goalie Ederson down in tied fifth spot with 58.8%. Meanwhile, Rodgers has revealed his half-time message to his Rangers players in the recent Old Firm stalemate. The champions shared the spoils with their city rivals after Adam Idah levelled Cyriel Dessers' opener at Ibrox. The Hoops boss has shared what he told his players behind the dressing room walls and has named one area of the performance that could have been a 'little bit better' ‌ He told Celtic TV:"My message really at halftime was that we've shown some real good moments in the first half. The actual lead up to their goal could have easily had us in front. "So we just had a couple of positional changes and just reinforcing some pressing items. And then I felt second half, we had possession and good possession coming through the pitch. "Not a criticism, but maybe where we could have been better was just a little bit better in the final third of the pitch. That would have allowed us to progress like we have done and we could have had more opportunities to score. "But overall, the point each was probably deserved. "We had the chance late on which would have been a great end to the game for us. But listen, we leave there 17 points clear and a massive goal difference. I'm pleased with the fightback from the players in the second half."
