#NSTviral: Paratrooper's surprise landing at Tawau kindergarten sports day charms Malaysians [WATCH]
KUALA LUMPUR: A Royal Malaysian Navy sailor became an unexpected highlight at a kindergarten sports day after his parachute landing went off course and brought him down onto a hockey field filled with excited children and parents.
The moment was captured in a TikTok video posted by user @zaynizz90, showing the lone parachutist drifting into view and landing relatively smoothly on the field.
The caption read: "While attending my child's Sports Day at Little Caliphs, a Navy sailor unexpectedly landed on the hockey field after a parachute jump went off course. Still, well done to the sailor.
"It definitely made the kids' day!"
The sailor, identified by his arm badge as a member of the Royal Malaysian Navy's elite Special Warfare Forces (Paskal) unit, was believed to have been part of an inter-service and inter-agency parachuting demonstration during the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Carnival 2025, which took place in Tawau on June 28 and 29.
Netizens flooded the video's comment section with amused and heart-warming reactions to the now-viral clip.
"Oh, I thought when I saw it on my friend's WhatsApp Story, it was just a gimmick for her child's sports day closing ceremony.
In my head, I was like, 'wow, how nice of the kindergarten to do a sports gimmick like this,'" Neena wrote.
"That Navy guy became instantly famous. All the attention was on him," Reyna_amir wrote.
Ameliasofea23 said: "Surely lots of people wanted to take pictures with him, haha."
For some, the moment held deeper meaning.
Mamadikabg wrote: "What a blessing for that child to witness a parachutist up close."
"Sometimes it's 'accidents' like this that spark a child's dream of becoming a soldier," wrote AJZ_85.
