CKPower Profit Soars on Hydropower Gains and Lower Costs

Bangkok, August 13, 2025 — Building on strong momentum from the first quarter, CKPower Public Company Limited (SET: CKP)—one of the region's largest producers of electricity from renewables with one of the lowest carbon footprints—reported continued growth in operating performance for the second quarter and first half of 2025. The company and its subsidiaries posted a Core Net Profit of Baht 353.0 million in Q2 and Baht 416.3 million for the six-month period, up by Baht 204.3 million or 137.4% year-on-year and Baht 509.2 million or 548.1% year-on-year, respectively. These results, announced by Managing Director Mr. Thanawat Trivisvavet, underscore the company's sustained profit expansion across the first half of the year. The improved performance for Q2 and 1H 2025 was driven primarily by higher average water inflows to the Xayaburi Hydroelectric Power Plant compared to the same period last year, and lower financing costs at Xayaburi Power Company Limited (XPCL) following global interest rate cuts. This led to a significantly higher share of profits from associate companies. Meanwhile, revenue from electricity sales at Nam Ngum 2 Power Company Limited (NN2) dipped slightly in Q2 and 1H 2025 despite higher sales volumes, due to the Thai Baht's appreciation affecting NN2's tariff, which is partly denominated in US dollars. Mr. Thanawat noted that NN2 recorded cumulative water inflows of 1,315 million cubic metres in 1H 2025—45.2% higher year-on-year—resulting in a 14.7% increase in electricity declarations from January to August. XPCL also experienced stronger water flows year-on-year, enabling full-capacity operation since late June. For Q3, the expected seasonal rise in water inflows at both hydro plants, coupled with reduced financing costs following policy rate cuts in the United States in late 2024 and Thailand in 1H 2025, is expected to provide a further boost to performance in 2H 2025. Meanwhile, construction of the Luang Prabang Hydroelectric Power Project (LPCL) reached 53% completion as of June 2025, in line with schedule. As of June 30, 2025, CKPower's total assets had increased by 4.7% from year-end 2024, supported by continued investment in LPCL, the strong performance of XPCL, and proceeds from the company's Baht 5 billion Green Debenture issuance in June 2025. The net interest-bearing debt-to-equity ratio remained low at 0.56 times, while the interest coverage ratio stood at 6.11 times, underscoring robust financial health and prudent debt management. 'Over the years, CKPower has navigated challenges arising from natural conditions and global economic volatility affecting interest rates and natural gas prices. Through effective management, technology adoption, and our highly skilled workforce, CKPower has remained agile in adapting to changing circumstances. Moving forward, CKPower will continue to expand its renewable energy portfolio, focusing on both hydro and solar power, alongside innovations to improve energy efficiency and promote conservation across its value chain—reaffirming our commitment to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,' concluded Mr. Thanawat.
