Biden May Have Had Cancer For A Decade, Oncologist And Former Adviser Says
A leading cancer doctor who served as an adviser to the Biden administration explained his surprise that former President Joe Biden's prostate cancer diagnosis was missed until now. Ezekiel Emanuel, an oncologist who sat on Biden's COVID Advisory Board, said on Monday that the 82-year-old could have had the disease 'for many years, maybe even a decade' given that it has spread to the bone. Appearing on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe,' Emanuel suggested Biden may have chosen not to take a prostate cancer screening test, or that the White House failed to report any results. Emanuel, a prominent figure in Democratic health policy circles who helped craft the Affordable Care Act, was not involved in Biden's diagnosis. On Sunday, Biden's office announced he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had metastasized. It came after Biden was examined after reporting urinary symptoms, resulting in the discovery of a 'small nodule' on his prostate. The diagnosis on Friday received a Gleason score of 9, which indicates his cancer is among the most aggressive. When asked by 'Morning Joe' host Joe Scarborough about the disease spreading to the bone, and how long that would take, Emanuel replied, 'Oh, he's had this for many years, maybe even a decade, growing there and spreading.' Emanuel explained that guidelines recommend against prostate cancer screening for men 70 and older, and no public records suggest Biden was taking regular prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood tests. Even so, Emanuel said the option of a test would have been discussed with Biden. 'It is a little surprising to many of us oncologists that he wasn't diagnosed earlier,' the doctor said. Emanuel, whose brother Rahm is the former Chicago mayor and Barack Obama's White House chief of staff, noted that both presidents Obama and George W. Bush had reported being tested for prostate cancer, and that 'it is a little surprising that the doctor didn't take it' when Biden was at the White House. He added, 'And if he took it and didn't report it and it was elevated, that is another case of doctors not being straightforward with us.' 'We've had several of them with President Trump, especially around his COVID diagnosis,' Emanuel continued. 'And if that is true, that would be very troubling.' Scarborough pressed Emanuel on his suggestion that Biden had the condition for years, and asked the doctor to make clear his opinion was more than speculation. Emanuel replied: 'He did not develop it in the last 100 to 200 days. He had it while he was president. He probably had it at the start of his presidency in 2021. Yes, I don't think there's any disagreement about that.' Biden's age and health came under scrutiny during his reelection campaign against President Donald Trump before stepping down as the Democratic candidate following a disastrous televised debate. His physical and mental state has faced more questions in recent weeks after a new book alleged that Biden aides hid the extent of his health issues from the public while he was in the White House. America's leading oncologist specialist says Joe Biden likely had cancer when he began his presidency in 2021. Dr Zeke Emanuel told Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough so on Monday, saying '[Biden] did not develop [prostate cancer] in the last, 100, 200 days. 'He had it while he was President,' he insisted. The 82-year-old Democrat was diagnosed with an 'aggressive' form of prostate cancer on Sunday, his office said - describing an advanced form of the disease that has already spread to the former president's bones. The severity of the diagnosis has raised questions over how White House doctors managed to miss any warning while Biden was still in office - questions Zeke sought to answer logically. One looming inquiry is whether the former first family knew about Biden's illness beforehand.
