UFC suspends Douglas Silva de Andrade six months for positive drug test

The reason why the UFC pulled Douglas Silva de Andrade minutes after he hit the scale Feb. 28 in Las Vegas has now been revealed. Thursday, the promotion said the cancellation came when anti-doping program CSAD detected the presence of furosemide, a prohibited substance, from a Feb. 14 urine sample. As a result, he has been suspended six months. The notification just happened to come minutes after Silva de Andrade (29-6 MMA, 7-6 UFC) weighed in for his March 1 fight vs. John Castaneda for UFC Fight Night 253. The bout was subsequently canceled for what the promotion said at the time was a lack of medical clearance. According to CSAD, Silva de Andrade submitted a supplement he was consuming to SMRTL labs. The container did not list furosemide but tested positive for the substance. An additional unopened container of the supplement returned the same positive test. Silva de Andrade, 39, has been on the UFC roster since 2014 and does not have history of failed drug tests. He will be eligible to return to competition Aug. 28, 2025.

UFC signee Danylo Voievodkin suspended two years for failed drug test

Heavyweight Danylo Voievodkin has yet to hit the UFC cage but has already failed one of the promotion's drug tests. UFC anti-doping program Combat Sports Anti-Doping announced Thursday that Voievodkin (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) failed an out-of-competition test and has been suspended two years. A sample from an Oct. 17 collection was positive for Meldonium. Meldonium is 'prohibited at all times substance in the class of Hormone and Metabolic Modulators,' according to CSAD. 'CSAD has further determined that no mitigating factors exist in this case to warrant a departure from the standard 24-month sanction for the use of Meldonium, a non-specified substance under the UFC ADP,' a written statement from CSAD said Thursday. Ukraine's Voievodkin, 24 had been offered a UFC contract less than one month prior when he upset Bailey Schoenfelder with a quick submission on Dana White's Contender Series. Voievodkin will be eligible to return Nov. 10, 2026 – two years from when he was placed on suspension.

UFC books Johnny Walker vs. Azamat Murzakanov

Ranked light heavyweights will collide on May 17. At a UFC Fight Night event, Johnny Walker and Azamat Murzakanov will square off in a three-round battle. Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. The event has been publicly rumored by some fighters and their management groups to be slated for Qatar, though the promotion has yet to announce the card or its location. Walker (21-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC) aims to snap a two-fight skid that consists of knockout losses to current UFC light heavyweight champion Magomed Ankalaev and perennial contender Volkan Oezdemir. Murzakanov (14-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) returns from a six-month drug test suspension that knocked him out of a UFC 309 showdown vs. Nikita Krylov in November. UFC antidoping program CSAD determined the positive drug test was due to a dietary supplement that did not have the banned substance listed on the label. Murzakanov enters the bout with UFC wins over Tafon Nchukwi, Devin Clark, Dustin Jacoby, and Alonzo Menifield. With the addition, the UFC Fight Night lineup for May 17 includes: Johnny Walker vs. Azamat Murzakanov Ismail Naurdiev vs. Jun Yong Park Shamil Gaziev vs. Serghei Spivac Hamdy Abdelwahab vs. Mohammed Usman Roman Dolidze aims to control his anger vs. Marvin Vettori at UFC Fight Night 254 Beneil Dariush expects Paddy Pimblett to have lots of success grappling Michael Chandler Video: 'UFC Fight Night 254: Vettori vs. Dolidze 2' media day interviews This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: UFC books Johnny Walker vs. Azamat Murzakanov
