Metro all set for maiden underground journey
Kanpur: Nayaganj Metro station and the train has been beautifully decorated with flowers for its maiden underground journey from this station on Friday. During his visit to the city on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the extended passenger service from Motijheel to Kanpur Central Station by flagging off a specially decorated metro train from CSA University ground. The train will be flagged off from Nayaganj station for its first journey through underground tunnel section. All the preparations have been made for the special day. Children, holding the national flag and chanting patriotic slogans, will travel onboard and the event will be broadcast live on LED screens installed at station platforms and at the CSA University. There are five underground stations between Motijheel and Kanpur Central — Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central. Until now, Kanpur Metro operated solely on elevated viaducts, but with this expansion, it will now operate through underground tunnel section. With this expansion, several key locations including Lal Imli, Naveen Market, BNSD, GIC College, Z Square Mall, Green Park International Cricket Stadium, Baba Anandeshwar Temple, Parade Chauraha, Pustak Bazaar, and Somdutt Plaza will be directly connected to the metro network. UPMRC MD Sushil Kumar said, "Our underground metro route passes beneath the city's busiest areas, making travel significantly more efficient and convenient. The journey from IIT to Motijheel will now take less than 30 minutes."

Rain offers relief from scorching heat
Kanpur: The city witnessed rainfall measuring around 24.2 mm during the intervening night of May 21 and 22, resulting in a drop in mercury levels and providing relief to citizens from the scorching heat on Thursday. A breeze flowing at the rate of 12.8 km per hour offered some respite to the city. Thunderstorm and rain began after midnight, and by 1am, over 15 mm of rainfall had been recorded. Sunil Pandey, weather scientist at CSA University and Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), has predicted the possibility of strong winds, thunderstorms with local light rainfall, and humid heat between May 23 and 25, due to light clouds in the next five days. According to the meteorological department, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1 degrees Celsius, which was 6.3 degrees lower than normal. The minimum temperature also dipped to 20.6 degrees Celsius, which was 502 degrees lower than normal.

Experts have stated that low relative humidity can adversely affect the eyes, skin, and respiratory tract in humans. The minimum relative humidity was noted at 25%, which is considered unfavourable. ‘Partly cloudy sky for next few days'
Kanpur: City witnessed a pleasant Thursday morning following overnight rain which led to a drop in the mercury. However, the day was warm with a maximum temperature of 37.4 degrees Celsius, 2.9 degrees lower than per the weather forecast from Meteorological Department, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy over the next five days, however, there is no likelihood of rain. Weather expert from CSA University, Sunil Pandey, stated that the city recorded 4.2mm of rainfall on the intervening night of May 7 and 8 .
