Bakersfield woman sentenced to jail for arrow-firing incident
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Bakersfield woman accused of attempting to shoot an arrow at a police officer during an assault investigation was sentenced Tuesday to 270 days in jail, according to court records. Sandy Lynn Ramirez in January made an 'open plea' — when a defendant enters no contest pleas to all counts in the hope the court sentences them to a lesser punishment than what's sought by the prosecution. She pleaded no contest to three felonies — including assault with a deadly weapon — and three misdemeanors for the court-indicated term, which also includes two years on probation. Basketball family: Brothers at CSU Bakersfield set to become teammates for the first time On a November morning in 2023, police were called to Bernard Street near Fashion Place to a report of an assault and contacted a woman who said Ramirez grabbed her by the neck and choked her. Ramirez also allegedly accosted a 16-year-old girl who used pepper spray to defend herself. Ramirez barricaded herself inside her bedroom. When police tried contacting her, she fired an arrow into the door and threatened she had a gun, police said. She was taken into custody about 20 minutes later after police used a Taser. UCSB faces CSU Bakersfield in Big West Tournament
Henderson, Nevada; Wednesday, 9 p.m. EDT BOTTOM LINE: UCSB plays in the Big West Tournament against CSU Bakersfield. The Gauchos have gone 11-9 against Big West teams, with an 8-3 record in non-conference play. UCSB has an 8-12 record against opponents over .500. The Roadrunners' record in Big West action is 8-12. CSU Bakersfield is 9-7 when it turns the ball over less than its opponents and averages 11.8 turnovers per game. UCSB scores 75.1 points per game, 1.4 more points than the 73.7 CSU Bakersfield allows. CSU Bakersfield scores 5.2 more points per game (74.0) than UCSB gives up to opponents (68.8). LAST 10 GAMES: Gauchos: 6-4, averaging 77.6 points, 27.8 rebounds, 15.8 assists, 6.9 steals and 3.5 blocks per game while shooting 48.0% from the field. (AP) — Jemel Jones scored 29 points as CSU Bakersfield beat Hawaii 76-64 on Thursday. Jones also contributed five rebounds for the Roadrunners (14-18, 8-12 Big West Conference). CJ Hardy scored 19 points and added six rebounds. Marvin McGhee shot 6 for 15, including 4 for 9 from beyond the arc to finish with 16 points. The Rainbow Warriors (15-15, 7-12) were led in scoring by Gytis Nemeiksa, who finished with 21 points. Tanner Christensen added 12 points and seven rebounds for Hawaii. Tom Beattie finished with 11 points. Hawaii visits CSU Northridge in its next matchup on Saturday. ___
