CT Group Unveils Vietnamese-Designed IoT Chip In Strategic Semiconductor Push
BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- Vietnam-based CT Group has launched its first locally designed Internet of Things (IoT) chip, marking a significant milestone in its 33rd anniversary celebration and the conclusion of its initial three-year plan within its second 30-year development phase. The chip, fully designed by the group's Vietnamese engineers using CMOS and III/V semiconductor technologies, was unveiled during a launch ceremony held on June 29 in Ho Chi Minh City, according to a statement. The group is setting up dedicated chip design houses to focus on artificial intelligence (AI), IoT, 5G/6G, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), defence applications, and sensor technologies while also developing customisable Intellectual Property (IP) cores and functional modules for System-on-a-Chip (SoC) applications, including Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC), NPU, and DSP systems. While operating on a fabless model, CT Group is working to master photolithography technology and aims to achieve full vertical integration—from design to testing—by 2030. The company has called for government support to invest in advanced photolithography machinery. To support this vision, CT Semiconductor, a division under the group, is establishing three assembly, testing, and packaging (ATP) plants; two research and development (R&D) centres in Vietnam; and customer care facilities in Silicon Valley and Phoenix, United States of America. The group's chip demand is backed by its smart city ecosystem, which integrates AI cameras, energy control modules, and monitoring systems. Additionally, its leadership in the UAV sector offers real-world testing opportunities for new chip technologies. CT Group benefits from a strong talent pipeline, working closely with top Vietnamese universities and international experts, including Vietnamese diaspora professionals, to support semiconductor workforce development. Its infrastructure advantage includes fully equipped research centres and production facilities that support chip packaging, testing, and commercialisation. The group is also committed to long-term investment in strategic chip areas such as telecommunications, AI, IoT, UAVs, and 5G/6G, aligning with Vietnam's national roadmap for semiconductor technology development.
