The Ibrox club have been locked in negotiations with AEK Athens over a potential deal for the striker for a few days now, with the Light Blues looking to make a profit on their top goal-scorer from last season. Rangers spent around £4.5million to land the Nigerian striker from the Italian club and it's understood they are holding out for a fee of £5m before letting him leave Scotland during this transfer window. Dessers has been a divisive figure at Ibrox despite netting 51 goals in 109 appearances for the club - finishing this year's campaign with a Premiership tally of 18. New boss Russell Martin is planning to go in a different direction and is looking to cash in on the forward while he can. The former Southampton and Swansea gaffer is already lining up replacements, with Matija Frigan and Dor Turgeman in the frame. But as things stand Dessers is still very much a Rangers player. The Greek capital outfit have stepped up their efforts to land him this week but no deal has been agreed between both clubs as of yet, according to reports from Greece. Sportime journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos claims there is still work to be done before an agreement is reached but talks are progressing well. It's said AEK remain 'optimistic' they will sign Dessers before the window slams shut. We told you last month how Rangers were bracing themselves for bids for the frontman. AEK haven't been the only club in for him, though, as several clubs were understood to be chasing him in January. Dessers' agent even revealed he had offers from TEN different teams during the winter window, but he decided to stay at Ibrox.
