Deputies break up large party of unsupervised teens at Harrisburg Park
The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office had to shut down a party at Harrisburg Park after it got out of control Friday. A video posted to Charlitt captured deputies responding to a wild party with over 200 juveniles in the area. Deputies said they were unsupervised, engaging in disorderly conduct, and firing splatterball guns at officers. Cristian Gonzalez told Channel 9 that he had just left the park right before the incident unfolded. 'I wasn't here for that. 'I'm glad I didn't see that, because I don't like my daughter seeing stuff that's not appropriate,' said Gonzalez. ALSO READ: Homeowners complain about 'party' houses in neighborhood Deputies said it all started at a pool house on Sunburst Lane for a birthday party published on social media. Once at the scene, officers asked the juveniles to leave the area, since it was HOA-regulated and the pool was not open. 'I'm surprised that the kids have taken it upon themselves to host a whole party, and especially the pool is just a safety risk, too,' said resident Evelyn Johnson. Johnson said she lives behind the pool house. She's glad the group complied with the officers and shut the party down, but was upset that the chaos even unfolded. 'I know it seems innocent to them, but it's really not. It's just putting your life in danger at the end of the day,' said Johnson. She said she wants kids to be more mindful of their choices. 'I just want our kids to make better choices. We can still have fun. It's just how we go about it,' said Johnson. The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office said no one was arrested. However, deputies said the actions of the juveniles will not be tolerated in the county. VIDEO: Homeowners complain about 'party' houses in neighborhood

Man who fled to Paris after deadly Midland crash extradited to US
A man who was taken into custody in Paris almost two years ago, after being accused in a Midland crash that killed three of his family members, is back in the U.S. Deputies said on Wednesday, Solomon Gheorghe arrived at the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. He's currently being held on a $2 million secured bond. Three people died and four others were hurt in the multi-vehicle crash on Sept. 20, 2023, according to the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office. It happened on Highway 24/27 near Bethel School Road. PAST COVERAGE: Deputies: Man allegedly impaired in Midland crash that killed 3 family members Deputies identified the three victims as Nicolae Gheorghe, 49, Adela Gheorghe, 47, and a 12-year-old boy. At the time, after gathering evidence and speaking to witnesses, investigators said they believed a van driving east swerved into the path of a truck and an SUV heading west, causing the crash. Deputies said Gheorghe, the van's driver, was impaired at the time of the crash. An arrest warrant was taken out against him for three counts of felony death by vehicle and one count of felony serious injury by vehicle. The sheriff's office said Gheorghe fled the country but they ultimately tracked him down and arrested him in Paris, France, with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service. Sheriff Van Shaw thanked U.S. Marshals, officials at the U.S. Embassy in Paris, and the Cabarrus County District Attorney's Office for their help in extraditing Gheorghe. In December 2023, the sheriff's office reduced speeds on Highway 24/27 from 55 mph to 45 mph between Sam Black Road and McManus Road. Deputies said the move was part of an effort to further prevent deadly and serious injury crashes along Highway 24/27. Check for the latest developments. Cabarrus County launches new program that grants sheriff's access to businesses, homeowners' security cameras
CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office is starting a new program where businesses and homeowners can volunteer to have the sheriff's office tap into their private surveillance cameras, during an emergency only in real-time, so that deputies can provide faster and better response. Last month, when Cabarrus County deputies got into a shootout with a murder suspect and neighbors were told to stay in their homes. The 9-1-1 center had access to deputies' body cameras then, but now they could have access to even more camera angles. A video from a neighbor's home surveillance camera on January 13th shows deputies moving in, guns drawn, as they say a murder suspect fired at them and hid behind a car. 'What is the suspect doing? Are there others involved? Are there other injured parties that we need to attend to?' Capt. Kevin Klinglesmith with the Cabarrus County Sheriff's office said as he described the questions deputies have as they respond to situations like this. The emergency on January 13th was unfolding in the middle of a neighborhood. Deputies could not see the neighbor's video in real-time, but they're starting a new program that would give them that access, but only if homeowners and businesses allow it during emergencies. Queen City News is tracking CRIME in your area 🚨 >> 'They (homeowners and businesses) can sign up. They can have any security camera feeds that they have input into our system,' said Klinglesmith. The Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office got state grants to start the Protected Places pilot program with Motorola Solutions. Some businesses say they like the idea of added protection, while others are hesitant because of privacy issues. If deputies get permission from a business or homeowner, they can see surveillance footage from the business or home during emergencies only. That's when the cameras would pop up in real-time at the sheriff's office's dispatch center. That could give deputies information to help track down suspects faster. 'We get a lot of that information fairly quickly, so it basically gives us the information that we need to respond quickly. Another information from a local agency just up north, they were able to provide when I did a tour of their real-time information center, is to tell us about a school shooting that they had. While officers were responding to that school shooting, they were able to capture on video, the suspect,' said Klinglesmith. Right now, the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office can tap in live to cameras in Cabarrus County Schools and any county building. They're also working with cities like Concord and state agencies like NCDOT to have access in real time to those agencies' cameras.
