Cabinet committee grants additional Rs12b for SSWMB

The Cabinet Committee on Finance, under the chairmanship of Energy, Development & Planning Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Interior & Law Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, held a meeting of the Energy Department. During the meeting, the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) presented a request for an additional budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025. After reviewing legal aspects of the request, committee members, in consultation with provincial ministers, approved a conditional out-of-budget grant of Rs12 billion for the SSWMB. It was also decided that the SSWMB will reassess all existing contracts with waste collection contractors, as the rates in Sindh were found to be higher than those in other cities. A proper system will be introduced to accurately measure the weight of garbage removed, and razor readers will be installed in all garbage collection vehicles. This will ensure that contractors are paid according to the actual weight of garbage transported, preventing the misuse of public funds.

CM launches e-Cabinet App

Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah approved the launch of the e-Cabinet App aimed at enhancing government efficiency. The platform is designed to ensure security, transparency and environmental sustainability, achieving 100 per cent paperless operations and reducing meeting preparation time by more than half, while also saving millions in funds. Wahab previously instructed the provincial IT department to develop a user-friendly e-Cabinet App to initiate paperless operations, starting with cabinet work and summaries. Following its development, a demonstration of the app was presented at the CM House on Friday. Wahab revealed that the provincial government currently incurs over Rs11 million annually in paper costs alone. The app is expected to provide advantages, including enhanced confidentiality, efficient time management, and a transition towards e-governance, promoting a progressive, technology-driven image for the government. The app will manage the workflow for the CM's summaries, cabinet meetings, and documentation for the Cabinet Committee on Finance (CCF), as well as meeting minutes. Key features of the app include a dashboard to track key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards for the Chief Secretary and CM providing an overview of all departments, and search options by date, subject, or agenda.
