Rs 65L ganja seized in Cachar, 3 held
Silchar: In two separate operations, Cachar Police seized ganja valued at around Rs 65 lakh and arrested three suspected drug peddlers, officials said on Friday. Cachar SP Numal Mahatta said acting on a tip-off about ganja transportation, police launched an operation in Sildubi on Thursday evening. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now They apprehended Rashid Ahmed (20), a resident of Menipur in Silchar, and recovered 8.342 kg of ganja worth Rs 5 lakh from his possession. The seizure was made in the presence of independent witnesses. In another operation, police intercepted a vehicle on the Silchar–Aizawl road in Dholai and found 50 plastic bags of ganja concealed in specially designed chambers. The contraband, estimated to be worth Rs 60 lakh, was seized in the presence of independent witnesses. Two occupants of the vehicle — Lal Lawmzuala (30) from Aizawl, and Lalnunpuii (31) from Saihapui in Mizoram's Kolasib district — were taken into custody. Preliminary investigation revealed that the ganja had been smuggled from Aizawl, Mahatta said. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the operations in a social media post on Friday, congratulating the Cachar Police for their efforts in curbing the drug menace.

20 crore heroin, 60,000 Yaba tablets seized in Silchar, 1 arrested
Silchar: In a major crackdown on narcotics, police in Silchar's Meherpur seized drugs worth approximately Rs 20 crore and arrested a suspect on Wednesday, reports BB Goswami. Cachar SP Numal Mahatta informed the media that security forces, acting on a credible tip-off, conducted a targeted operation in Meherpur and intercepted an SUV. The suspect, identified as Raja Miah Borbhuyan (64), a resident of Moinul Haque Choudhury Lane in Meherpur, was apprehended at the scene.
