Cadott man receives delay in sentencing for child sexual assault conviction
CHIPPEWA FALLS — Sentencing has been delayed for a Cadott man who was convicted in February of repeatedly sexually assaulting a teenage girl over the past three years, beginning when she was 16 years old. Lonnie M. Solie, 57, pleaded no contest in Chippewa County Court to two counts of having sex with the girl. Three other counts were read-in and dismissed. Each conviction carries a maximum penalty of 12½ years of imprisonment. Judge Steve Gibbs ordered a pre-sentence investigation be completed by the Department of Corrections. A PSI includes a recommended length of incarceration. The final report is not available to the public or the media. It was filed with the court on April 9. Sentencing was slated for Monday, April 21, but defense attorney Les Liptak requested a delay to obtain an alternate pre-sentence investigation. Typically, an attorney would seek an alternate PSI if they deemed the recommendation from the DOC was too severe. No new sentencing date has been set. Solie has been incarcerated since his arrest last June. He remains incarcerated on a $15,000 cash bond. If Solie posts bond, he cannot have any contact with the victim or her residence and family. He also cannot have any contact with juvenile females. According to the criminal complaint, a 19-year-old woman told investigators in June that Solie has been sexually assaulting her in his home in the town of Sigel for the past three years, beginning in summer 2022. When police interviewed Solie, he reportedly admitted to the sexual assaults. When Solie was arrested, Chippewa County District Attorney Wade Newell sought and obtained a $25,000 cash bond, saying the circumstances and facts of the case against Solie warranted the high cash bail amount. Online court records show Solie was convicted of operating while revoked in 2011 and has been convicted in four prior drunk-driving cases; he was sentenced to serve 75 days in jail for his fourth offense in 2016, and his license was revoked for 27 months. In 2000, Solie pleaded no contest to child abuse — recklessly causing great harm in Eau Claire County Court, and that is a felony conviction. He lived in Altoona at the time, and was ordered to serve six months in jail and was placed on probation for five years.

Warrant issued for Cadott man accused of sexual assault
CHIPPEWA FALLS — A warrant has been issued for a Cadott man who was charged with sexually assaulting an unconscious person in March 2024. John T. Davis, 51, 14153 250th St., is charged in Chippewa County Court with second-degree sexual assault of an unconscious person, third-degree sexual assault and fourth degree sexual assault. Davis failed to show up for a court hearing Wednesday, so Judge Steve Gibbs issued a warrant for his arrest, which took effect Friday. Davis' attorney, George Miller, said he had not been in contact with Davis that day but has had good communications with him in the past. The warrant calls for extradition if required. The terms of Davis' release prohibit any contact with the accuser. According to the criminal complaint, the woman told police she was at a residence in Lake Hallie with Davis when he began to remove her clothing. She stated she was intoxicated and told him she didn't want to have sex. However, he proceeded to have sex with her, and she was 'in and out of consciousness' during intercourse. Davis entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment in September. Court records show Davis has previously been convicted of four drunk-driving offenses, possession of illegally obtained prescriptions, and obstructing an officer.

CF man sentenced to two years prison for attempted child pornography with teen girl
CHIPPEWA FALLS — A former Cadott man accused of exchanging images that contained nudity with a 15-year-old girl will serve two years in prison. Ryan M. Bergeron, 52, who now has a listed residence at the Wisconsin Veterans Housing and Recovery Program at Klein Hall in Chippewa Falls, pleaded no contest Wednesday in Chippewa County Court to one count of attempted possession of child pornography. Judge James Isaacson ordered the two-year prison sentence, along with two years of extended supervision. Bergeron also must register as a sex offender, submit a DNA sample, and pay a $538 fine. He also must complete any counseling required by his probation agent. According to the criminal complaint, the Chippewa Falls Police Department received a cyber tip that Bergeron was exchanging images that contained nudity with a 15-year-old girl. The police department obtained the exchange of sexual messages and images between them. Investigator Ryan Boie interviewed Bergeron in April, and Bergeron reportedly admitted he was aware the girl was under-age when he engaged in sexual communications with her, and he admitted they 'exchange a lot of naked photographs.' When Bergeron was arrested last May, he was ordered to not have any contact with juvenile females, not to possess any device that can have access to the internet, and to not have any contact with the Chippewa Area Ice Arena. Bergeron is already in the Wisconsin prison system after being convicted in a drunk-driving case last year. Wisconsin Department of Corrections records show he was sent to Stanley Correctional Institution in November, and he is currently incarcerated at the Jackson County Correctional Institution. Isaacson made Bergeron's new sentence concurrent to the prison term he is already serving. On June 30, Bergeron pleaded no contest in Chippewa County Court to second-degree recklessly endangering safety, operating while revoked and failure to install an ignition interlock device. Bergeron was originally charged with OWI-7th offense, but as part of a plea bargain, it was turned into the recklessly endangering safety charge. According to that criminal complaint, an officer stopped Bergeron on west-bound Highway 29 at 9:07 p.m. Oct. 30, 2021, near Stanley. Bergeron failed field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test showed a .173 blood-alcohol level, more than twice the legal limit. Bergeron was arrested and taken to the Chippewa County Jail. He posted a $1,000 cash bond the next day. Isaacson ordered a one-year jail sentence on the operating while revoked conviction and six months in jail on the failure to install an ignition interlock device, and he ordered those sentences be served consecutively. Bergeron was given 18 days jail credit for time already served. Bergeron also must pay $3,294 in court costs and fines. Isaacson also ordered Bergeron take an alcohol treatment program, and he must complete 300 hours of community service. In the second-degree recklessly endangering safety conviction, Judge Isaacson ordered a three-year prison sentence and three years of extended supervision, but he made that imposed and stayed, meaning Bergeron would only serve the prison sentence if he violates terms of his probation. Isaacson placed Bergeron on probation for four years. As terms of his probation, Bergeron must complete the Recovery Court program, and he must maintain absolute sobriety. He cannot enter bars or taverns during his probation period. Isaacson ordered another six months in jail on this conviction, consecutive to the other two charges, for a total of two years in jail. Court records show Bergeron was convicted in 2019 for his sixth drunk-driving offense, stemming from an arrest Feb. 18, 2018.

Cadott woman charged with stealing from Boy Scouts, business organization
CHIPPEWA FALLS — A Cadott woman accused of stealing money from the Boy Scouts of America and two business organizations has now been charged. Nicole R. Ruhe, 43, 27498 100th Ave., was charged Tuesday in Chippewa County Court with three counts of theft in a business setting; all three counts are felonies. Judge Benjamin Lane released Ruhe on a signature bond and set a return court date for March 18. According to the criminal complaint, Ruhe has served for the Cadott Boys Basketball Association, the Cadott Community Association, and Boy Scout Troop 65 of Cadott. She is accused of accessing and taking funds from each organization. 'Nicole was interviewed multiple times and admitted to taking/using two of the three organizations' money and failing to return it,' the criminal complaint reads. 'Nicole only admitted to money that was able to be proven missing/unaccounted for with her responsibility as the treasurer.' The basketball organization found $5,159.00 unaccounted for. 'They also found bank ledgers that had been provided by Nicole that had been changed in an attempt to mislead the (basketball organization) on the actual amounts the CBBA had in their account during meetings,' the complaint reads. Investigators then learned Ruhe was active in the Boy Scouts. 'From reviewing the troop's bank account and known profitable activities, it was found $4,095.03 was unaccounted for and other fundraising profits had never been documented submitted into the troop's account,' the complaint reads. 'Nicole was questioned again on the missing money to which no specific reasoning or answers were given for much of the unaccounted-for money or other profits.' The CCA also suspected Ruhe, who was treasurer, was stealing money. 'The CCA suspected anywhere from $4,000-$9,000 was unaccounted for based on their knowledge and findings,' the complaint reads. 'From reviewing The CCA's account information and records there were similar behaviors observed in Nicole's record keeping and submission of funds to their bank that were also observed with the CBBO and BSAs. Nicole's records submitted to the CCA were found to differ $2,486.25 to $10,995.92 from 2022-2023 from that of the CCA's bank records showed.' The officers met with Ruhe and reviewed the ledgers she kept. 'Nicole indicated her using the money was (due to) falling on hard times and being out of work from her heart surgery for six months and only getting half her normal wage,' the complaint reads.
