Legal campaign launched to support Caerphilly workers
The campaign is focused on those who worked at the Caerphilly Tar Plant or their families and is led by UK law firm Hugh James.
It aims to help individuals affected by serious illnesses believed to be linked to historic chemical exposure at the site.
The Caerphilly Tar Plant operated for much of the 20th century, processing coal tar and producing chemical by-products used in construction and road surfacing.
James Gibson, a partner at Hugh James specialising in industrial disease litigation, said: "We believe there is a strong case to answer.
"We are already representing workers and families of former workers from similar plants in England and Wales who developed conditions such as lung cancer, skin cancer, chronic bronchitis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema, and asthma – all of which may be linked to the hazardous working conditions that existed."
Hugh James is offering free consultations and no win, no fee representation.
Lawrence O'Halleron MBE is pursuing a claim on behalf of his late father, who worked at a similar site.
Mr O'Halleron said: "We had no idea at the time.
"I would encourage anyone in the area who worked at the Caerphilly Tar Plant, or who remembers a family member who did, to come forward."
