Starbucks menu cuts starting soon, layoffs announced
Starbucks announced Monday that it is cutting more than 1,100 jobs and outlined some of the "less popular beverages" being removed from the menu. Why it matters: The coffee giant under CEO Brian Niccol has been moving to return to its roots to try reversing a decline in foot traffic and sales. Niccol said in late January that the company will trim "roughly 30%" of its menu items by the end of the 2025 fiscal year. Starbucks Is Cutting 13 Drinks From Its Menu Starting Next Week, And Here's A List Of What Is Being Discontinued
In case you didn't know, Starbucks has been facing some challenges lately. Sales declined last year, and as Forbes recently noted, the company has lost the customers' goodwill. Last September, the company brought in Brian Niccol (who had previously been chairman and CEO of Chipotle) to help turn things around. In a call to investors in October, he said, "Our problems are fixable — most of what we need to do is within our control." Unfortunately, Starbucks announced Monday that part of its solution is laying off 1,100 corporate employees globally. And yesterday, it announced that starting March 4, it would be cutting 13 "less popular beverages" from its menu because they "aren't commonly purchased" and "can be complex to make." This is being done to offer a better in-store experience and reduce wait times. According to the AP, the drinks that will be removed next week are the Iced Matcha Lemonade, Espresso Frappuccino, Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino, Java Chip Frappuccino, White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino, Chai Crème Frappuccino... ...Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino, Double Chocolaty Chip Crème Frappuccino, Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino, White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino, White Hot Chocolate, Royal English Breakfast Latte, and the Honey Almondmilk Flat White. Starbucks also added that they would be making further beverage and food menu item cuts "throughout the coming months" and that by the end of 2025, they will have a roughly 30% reduction in their menu offerings.

Starbucks drops more than a dozen drinks from its menu amid layoffs
Goodbye, Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino. Adios, White Hot Chocolate. Starbucks is getting rid of more than a dozen drinks, the company announced this week, as part of an effort to get back to its roots as a place that serves, well … coffee. The list of soon-to-be-axed beverages includes a number of frappuccino concoctions as Starbucks sought to eliminate drinks it said were either too complicated to make, weren't big sellers or were similar to other menu items. On Monday, Starbucks also announced it is laying off 1,100 of its 16,000 corporate employees. 'We're simplifying our menu to focus on fewer, more popular items, executed with excellence,' the company wrote in a message posted on its webpage. 'This will make way for innovation, help reduce wait times, improve quality and consistency, and align with our core identity as a coffee company.' The move is part of a rebranding for the 53-year-old coffee chain led by CEO Brian Niccol, who, shortly after taking the company's reins, in September announced an initiative called 'Back to Starbucks' that included paring back the chain's sprawling menu and refocusing on coffee. The drinks slated to disappear as of March 4 are: Iced Matcha Lemonade, Espresso Frappuccino, Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino, Java Chip Frappuccino, White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino, Chai Crème Frappuccino, Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino, Double Chocolaty Chip Crème Frappuccino, Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino, White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino, White Hot Chocolate, Royal English Breakfast Latte and Honey Almondmilk Flat White. Starbucks isn't done cleaning out its pantry, either: More food and drink items will be removed in the coming months, resulting in a 30 percent smaller menu by the end of September, the company said. The news was doubtless welcomed by the baristas who have grumbled about the time it takes to prepare the complex elixirs, which involve various syrups and foams. Some fans, of course, weren't too thrilled, with some posting videos in tribute to their beloved beverages. The effort to streamline and improve service comes as Starbucks has been feeling a financial pinch: Same-store sales have declined for the last three quarters, and global coffee prices are at record highs. In his September message, Niccol acknowledged that the customer experience wasn't what it used to be. 'Menus can feel overwhelming, product is inconsistent, the wait too long or the handoff too hectic,' he wrote. Since then, Niccol has instituted other changes meant to bring back the chain's good old days, including a return of the bar allowing customers to add their own milk and sweeteners, baristas writing and doodling on cups and more use of ceramic mugs in place of paper cups.

Starbucks Just Revealed the First List of Items That Will Be Removed From Menus—And Your Favorite May Be On It
Starbucks fans have been waiting with bated breath since the popular brand announced a big menu shakeup would be on the horizon. While the list of items to be removed wasn't mentioned at the time, the brand has now released what is the first wave of items to be permanently removed from menus nationwide. 😋😋 🍳🍔 For the first round of cuts, the brand noted that the below items "aren't commonly purchased, can be complex to make, or are similar to other beverages on the menu." Here's what will be leaving: Iced Matcha Lemonade Espresso Frappuccino, Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino Java Chip Frappuccino, White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino Chai Crème Frappuccino, Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino, Double Chocolaty Chip Crème Frappuccino, Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino, and White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino White Hot Chocolate Royal English Breakfast Latte Honey Almondmilk Flat White Related: But why the big change? Back in January, the brand stated that "We believe this is the fundamental change in strategy needed to solve our underlying issues, restore confidence in our brand and return the business to sustainable, long-term growth." And now, they're doubling down on that sentiment. "As part of our plan to get back to Starbucks, we're simplifying our menu to focus on fewer, more popular items, executed with excellence," a press release from the brand read. "This will make way for innovation, help reduce wait times, improve quality and consistency, and align with our core identity as a coffee company." Related: If you're a fan of any of the above items on the chopping block, there's a bit of good news. Thankfully, the items are set to be on the menu until March 4, and in an effort to keep you coming back for more, the brand has also delivered suggestions of what to try instead. For the Iced Matcha Lemonade, the brand recommends trying the "Green Tea Lemonade, which shares similar citrus and grassy notes." For the Espresso Frappuccino and/or Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino, Starbucks says that "Coffee Frappuccino is a great alternative, as it has sweet, roasty coffee notes and can easily be customized to add a shot of espresso or pump of syrup." Are you a fan of the Java Chip Frappuccino and/or White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino? You'll want to "try the Mocha Frappuccino instead as it has bittersweet chocolate notes, and the chocolate bits in the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino give a similar texture as the Java Chip Frappuccino." For the Chai Crème Frappuccino, Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino, Double Chocolaty Chip Crème Frappuccino, Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino, and White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino, Starbucks notes that you may enjoy the "creamy vanilla notes of the popular Vanilla Bean Frappuccino which can be customized with flavor, or the Strawberry Frappuccino which has notes of fresh berries and cream." White Hot Chocolate fans will switch over to the Hot Chocolate as it "can be customized with Mocha or White Chocolate Mocha sauce." For those who love the Royal English Breakfast Latte, the London Fog Latte "shares similar sweet floral notes." And lastly, to replace the Honey Almondmilk Flat White, the regular Flat White "can be customized with any non-dairy milk and sweetener of choice." Related: According to Starbucks, this is just the first wave of item removals from the menu and customers can expect to see plenty more over the next few months, "resulting in roughly 30% reduction of menu items in the U.S." by September 2025. Things aren't all lost, though. Fans of the popular Lavender-flavored beverages will be happy to know that they will be hitting menus again this spring. New items like the Iced Cherry Chai and Jalapeño Chicken Pocket will also be arriving on the menu as well. Here's hoping your fav didn't (and doesn't) make the list! Up Next:
