Rockford IceHogs rally to claim game one over the Milwaukee Admirals in overtime

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Rockford IceHogs were working some more playoff magic Thursday night in Milwaukee. They rallied to defeat the AHL Central Division Champion Admirals 3-2 in was a physical game throughout featuring several skirmishes. The first period was scoreless. The Admirals scored a pair of goals in the second from veteran Cal O'Reilly and Fedor Hogs didn't let that phase them. They kept battling and it paid off in the third period. Paul Ludwinski scored a goal at the 11:48 mark, and then Gerry Mayhew scored at the 16:33 mark to even up the game a two leading to extra session didn't last long. IceHogs forward Colton Dach, just back from a shoulder injury that sideline him nearly two months, scored while rushing up the left side beating Admirals All-Star goaltender Matthew Murray putting this game to bed. IceHogs goaltender Drew Commesso earned the win with 28 IceHogs hold the upper hand in this best-of-five series. Game two will be played Saturday night in highlights, watch the media player above. Cal O'Reilly Becomes Ninth AHL Player To Reach 1000 Career Games

Milwaukee Admirals forward Cal O'Reilly has become the ninth player in AHL history to play 1000 games. The 38-year-old reached the milestone on Feb. 20 in a 3-1 loss to the Chicago Wolves. O'Reilly's 1000 career games have spanned over parts of 18 AHL seasons and eight franchises including the Admirals, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Portland Pirates, Utica Comets, Rochester Americans, Toronto Marlies, Iowa Wild, and Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The Toronto, Ont., native has 172 goals, 592 assists, and 764 points in his AHL career, placing him 20th on the all-time scoring list. That player was Milwaukee Admirals' forward Cal O'Reilly, who hit the milestone during Milwaukee's game against the Chicago Wolves. O'Reilly also ranks in the top 20 in all-time points with 764 points and is one of seven players to record more than 550 assists in the AHL. During the 2014-15 season, O'Reilly was captain of the Utica Comets, who, at the time, were the Canucks AHL affiliate. During his two seasons with the Comets, O'Reilly recorded 106 points in 128 games and was wearing the "C" when Utica made their run to the 2015 Calder Cup Final. As for the next player who could hit the 1,000-game mark in the AHL, that would be Bridgeport Islanders left winger Chris Terry, who currently sits at 863 games. The current leader for the Abbotsford Canucks is John Stevens, who has played 389 AHL games. Other Abbotsford players who have skated in over 300 AHL regular season games include Phil Di Giuseppe (314) and Carsen Twarynski (301). Predators' Ryan O'Reilly shares hilarious message for brother Cal at 1,000th AHL game

Cal O'Reilly, the older brother of Nashville Predators forward Ryan O'Reilly, is playing in game No. 1,000 in his American Hockey League career on Thursday. Before the game against the Chicago Wolves, Cal's brother Ryan showed his support by holding up a humorous message on a whiteboard during warmups. "Congrats on having less teeth than me," O'Reilly's sign read. Several members of the O'Reilly family were present for the occasion, which took place at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Cal O'Reilly, 38, becomes the ninth player in AHL history to skate in 1,000 games. He was a fifth-round pick by the Predators in 2005 and made his NHL debut on Feb. 28, 2009. He played 85 more games with Nashville over the next four seasons before being traded to Arizona in 2012. In 145 NHL games, Cal O'Reilly scored 16 goals and 33 assists, his most recent appearance coming with the Minnesota Wild in 2018. In the AHL, he has 172 goals and 592 assists over his 18-year career. Cal's younger brother Ryan, who signed a four-year deal with the Predators in 2023, has played in 1,124 NHL games, scoring 296 goals and 509 assists. He won a Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019 and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy, given to the most valuable player in the playoffs.
