Predators' Ryan O'Reilly shares hilarious message for brother Cal at 1,000th AHL game

Yahoo20-02-2025

Cal O'Reilly, the older brother of Nashville Predators forward Ryan O'Reilly, is playing in game No. 1,000 in his American Hockey League career on Thursday.
Before the game against the Chicago Wolves, Cal's brother Ryan showed his support by holding up a humorous message on a whiteboard during warmups.
"Congrats on having less teeth than me," O'Reilly's sign read.
Several members of the O'Reilly family were present for the occasion, which took place at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.
Cal O'Reilly, 38, becomes the ninth player in AHL history to skate in 1,000 games. He was a fifth-round pick by the Predators in 2005 and made his NHL debut on Feb. 28, 2009. He played 85 more games with Nashville over the next four seasons before being traded to Arizona in 2012.
In 145 NHL games, Cal O'Reilly scored 16 goals and 33 assists, his most recent appearance coming with the Minnesota Wild in 2018. In the AHL, he has 172 goals and 592 assists over his 18-year career.
Cal's younger brother Ryan, who signed a four-year deal with the Predators in 2023, has played in 1,124 NHL games, scoring 296 goals and 509 assists. He won a Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019 and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy, given to the most valuable player in the playoffs.
The Predators return to the ice after a 10-day break on Saturday, taking on the Colorado Avalanche at Bridgestone Arena (7 p.m. CT, FanDuel Sports Network).

Rodrygo drops Real Madrid future hint with social media post

Real Madrid star Rodrygo has on Tuesday moved to reiterate his 'happiness' at the club, in the process playing down his ongoing exit links. Frontman Rodrygo has of course taken his place centre stage in the headlines across Europe for several weeks now. Advertisement This comes after a series of reports were forthcoming in the media, suggesting that the 24-year-old was seeking a new challenge this summer. A whole host of clubs, in turn, have been tipped as potential landing spots for Rodrygo, chief among them Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea. As alluded to above, though, if the latest social media activity on the part of the player himself is anything to go by, he appears to remain more than content with life in Spain's capital. After reconvening with his Real Madrid teammates under the watch of new manager Xabi Alonso at Valdebebas this week, Rodrygo took to his official Instagram account, to unveil a photo of himself accompanied by the simple caption: Advertisement 'HAPPY' Conor Laird – GSFN

Angel Reese Sends Clear Message After Chicago Sky's Blowout Loss to Indiana Fever

Angel Reese Sends Clear Message After Chicago Sky's Blowout Loss to Indiana Fever originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Angel Reese is not losing confidence despite the Chicago Sky's struggles this 2025 WNBA season. She made that abundantly clear on Sunday, a day after their loss to the Caitlin Clark-less Indiana Fever. Advertisement The 23-year-old Reese struggled mightily on the offensive end against the Fever, scoring just four points on 2-of-7 shooting as Chicago was blown out, 79-52. Reese did grab 12 rebounds and dish out two assists, but her efforts were simply not enough. The Sky played poorly as a team, with no Chicago player scoring in double digits. Their best scorers were Rebecca Allen and Kamilla Cardoso, who had eight points each. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese (5) looks on during a Lee-Imagn Images The Sky dropped to a 2-5 record as a result, and there's no end in sight for their on-court troubles — especially after the season-ending injury to starting point guard Courtney Vandersloot. Advertisement Despite her offensive woes and the issues the Sky are facing, though, Reese is not letting the problems bother her and affect her mentally. On Instagram, she posted a series of photos of her pregame outfit for the Fever showdown with a strong and clear message. "I AM EXACTLY WHO I THINK I AM," Reese wrote. Angel Reese's latest Instagram post a day after the Chicago Sky's loss to the Indiana Reese/Instagram In the seven games the Sky have played so far, Angel Reese averaged 9.1 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists. While her assist numbers are up by a bit, her scoring and rebounding are down, all while shooting an abysmal 30.9% from the field. Last season, Reese put up 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds while shooting 39.1% overall. Advertisement Sure enough, the Sky will need Reese to recapture her old form and play more efficiently if they want to turn things around quickly. The good news is Reese has the right mindset despite their poor start to the campaign.
