Toa Payoh West Market & Food Centre to close for 60-day renovation
Toa Payoh and Braddell residents, it is with great displeasure that I inform you that you have one less hawker centre to visit for the next 2 months. From 2 Jun to 31 Jul, West Market & Food Centre is temporarily closingh for renovations.
Established in 1969, this hawker centre is home to 40 cooked food stalls and 108 market stalls (and even an old-school aquarium!). It is conveniently located nerar Toa Payoh, Braddell and Caldecott MRT.
Though it might not be as popular as some neighbouring food spots, Toa Payoh West Market & Food Centre does boast some standout stalls, including Michelin Guide Chey Sua Carrot Cake and Come Daily Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee.
This upcoming round of repair & redecoration works will revamp the tables and chairs, as well as replace floor tiles to elevate your dining experience.
De Sheng, owner of Pure Soya Bean, intends to give his staff a long break to rest for these 2 months. In the meantime, he will focus on business at their 409 AMK Market And Food Centre outlet and Chun Chun Tian Mi at Serangoon Gardens, their sister traditional dessert stall.
Pure Soya Bean is known for their freshly made soya milk with unique variations, such as Matcha Green Tea Soya Milk (S$3.50) and Black Glutinous Rice Soya Milk (S$3). They also offer beancurd and grass jelly for a refreshing post-meal dessert.
Most, if not all, stalls in the hawker centre should reopen in Aug until further notice. It is unconfirmed which of the lot will be continuing business during this period of Toa Payoh West Market & Food Centre's renovation.
Regardless, you still have a week left to patronise these stalls before we bid a short farewell for 2 months. Be sure to head down and support your favourite hawkers while you still can!
