Utah Valley set to join Big West Conference for 2026-27 athletic year
OREM, Utah — Utah Valley is joining the Big West conference for the 2026-27 athletic year, giving the league a presence in that state for the first time since Utah State ended a 27-year run in 2005. The conference said Wednesday it remained open to the possibility of adding a 12th member but anticipated being an 11-school league when Utah Valley and California Baptist officially join July 1, 2026.

California Baptist holds off Tarleton State 55-51 in WAC Tournament quarterfinal
LAS VEGAS — Dominique Daniels Jr. had 13 points to lead California Baptist to a 55-51 victory over Tarleton State in a Western Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal on Thursday night. The third-seeded Lancers (17-14) will play No. 2 seed Grand Canyon in a Friday semifinal. No. 1 seed Utah Valley faces No. 5 seed Seattle University in the other semifinal.

Javonte Johnson scores 19 to lead California Baptist over Tarleton State 68-48

(AP) — Javonte Johnson had 19 points to lead California Baptist to a 68-48 victory over Tarleton State on Thursday night. Johnson shot 6 for 6 from beyond the arc for the Lancers (15-14, 8-7 Western Athletic Conference). Tylen Riley added 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Dominique Daniels Jr. had 11 points. The Texans (12-18, 7-8) were led in scoring by Dantwan Grimes with 11 points. Keitenn Bristow totaled 10 points and 10 rebounds. Bubu Benjamin also scored 10. Both teams close out the regular season on Saturday. Cal Baptist hosts UT Arlington and Tarleton State hosts Utah Valley. ___

(AP) — Dominique Daniels Jr. scored 21 points to lead California Baptist over Abilene Christian 83-60 on Thursday night. Daniels went 8 of 13 from the field (3 for 4 from 3-point range) for the Lancers (11-10, 4-3 Western Athletic Conference). AJ Braun had 13 points and Kendal Coleman scored 12. Bradyn Hubbard led the way for the Wildcats (9-13, 1-6) with 15 points and eight rebounds. Dontrez Williams added nine points. ___
