What Heat wants to see Kasparas Jakucionis limit in Summer League

The post What Heat wants to see Kasparas Jakucionis limit in Summer League appeared first on ClutchPoints. After back-to-back rough outings for Miami Heat rookie Kasparas Jakucionis in the Summer League to start, there is still a lot to improve on and learn, and the 20th overall pick already has goals in what he should limit. Though Jakucionis has already gotten advice from fellow Heat young star Kel'el Ware, Summer League head coach Eric Glass speaks on what the staff is telling the 19-year-old. Advertisement Through two games on Saturday and Sunday, Jakucionis has totaled seven points on making just one field goal out of 10 attempts, missing all seven of his three-point opportunities, and also has eight turnovers, five of them in the latter game. As Glass would mention, the entire team had a problem in that department, finishing with 24 turnovers, but would mention that the task will be to 'coach up' Jakucionis as there is a 'learning curve,' according to The Miami Herald. 'That's a major emphasis for everybody,' Glass said. 'We'll continue to watch film with him and coach him up. There's a learning curve for him and we'll help him with that process so we can get those turnovers down.' One area that's been a little bit of a disappointment so far has been the assist numbers, though Jakucionis has been used on and off the ball, and although he's known for his play-making and ball-handling, his role has been fluid. So far through the two contests, he has three assists total. 'We have a lot of guys that can handle,' Glass said. 'We're trying to have counters to teams' pressure. So that's part of our offense, where we can get other guys involved, other guys can bring the ball up the court and initiate offense to alleviate some of that pressure.' Advertisement Heat's Kasparas Jakucionis is receiving advice from Kel'el Ware Benny Sieu-Imagn Images Jakucionis has no doubt expressed his excitement about improving with the Heat, so judgment should not be based on just two Summer League games. Every rookie's path in the NBA isn't as easy as the same was with Ware, who was a first-year player last season, as advised Jakucionis, reminding him that this is a time to 'work on your stuff.' 'I was speaking to him yesterday, because we walked back from the game, and I was just telling him, 'Hey, you know, it's summer league for a reason. You work on your stuff,'' Ware said of his message to Jakucionis. 'I told him if you're going to shoot, don't think about it. You let it go, trust yourself.' Advertisement The next time Jakucionis can get back on the floor is on Sunday in the final California Classic Summer League game against the Golden State Warriors. Rookie Will Richard makes Summer League debut at California Classic vs. Spurs

While the Golden State Warriors secured a win over the Los Angeles Lakers in their California Classic Summer League opener, they were missing a pair of key pieces. Due to their draft day trades not being official with the league yet, rookies Alex Toohey and Will Richard were sidelined on Saturday night at Chase Center. However, with their trades going through on Sunday morning, Richard suited up for the first time in gold and blue at Chase Center for Game 2 of the California Classic. Despite Richard's debut, Toohey was sidelined again on Sunday against the San Antonio Spurs. Richard quickly impressed, showing why the Warriors selected him in the second round of the 2025 draft. The Florida Gator product tallied 16 points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field with four rebounds, two steals and an assist in 25 minutes. Richard missed a game-winning attempt from beyond the arc as the clock ran down to zero in Golden State's 90-88 loss to San Antonio. Fellow rookie LJ Cryer led the Warriors with 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field with five made triples in 22 minutes. Richard and the Warriors will get Monday off before hosting the Miami Heat on Tuesday for the California Classic finale. This post originally appeared on Warriors Wire! Is Jameer Nelson Jr. the San Antonio Spurs' Next Hidden Gem? Summer League Debut Hints at Bigger Role Ahead

Jameer Nelson Jr (Image via USA TODAY Sports) Jameer Nelson Jr . made a notable impression in his 2025 NBA Summer League debut for the San Antonio Spurs , showcasing his skills with a solid performance of 13 points and five assists, while shooting an efficient 56% from the field (5-for-9 FG). Despite the Spurs falling to the Miami Heat 82-69 in the California Classic Summer League opener, Nelson Jr. 's contribution stood out as a bright spot for the team. Jameer Nelson Jr's Background and Basketball Journey Jameer Nelson Jr., born August 7, 2001, is the son of former NBA veteran Jameer Nelson. He carved his own path through a strong high school career at Haverford School in Pennsylvania, where he led his team to an undefeated 30-0 season and a Class 5A state championship. Nelson Jr. then played five seasons of college basketball across three programs: George Washington University, the University of Delaware, and Texas Christian University (TCU). Over 136 college games, he averaged 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, demonstrating his all-around game and defensive capabilities. After going undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft, Nelson Jr. signed with the Spurs for the 2024 Summer League and later joined their G League affiliate, the Austin Spurs, where he continues to develop his game and pursue an NBA career. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! Techno Mag Learn More Undo Summer League Debut Performance In the Spurs' Summer League opener against the Miami Heat , Jameer Nelson Jr. was the team's best performer off the bench. His 13 points came on 5-for-9 shooting, including a 1-for-2 mark from three-point range and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line. Alongside his scoring, he dished out five assists, showing his playmaking ability and court vision. His balanced offensive game and ability to contribute in multiple facets made him a key figure in the Spurs' offense during the game. The San Antonio Spurs struggled overall, shooting just 33% from the field and 19% from three-point range, which contributed to their loss. However, Nelson Jr.'s efficient shooting and steady hand in distributing the ball helped keep the Spurs competitive through much of the game. His performance was particularly encouraging given the team's overall offensive struggles and the fact that the Spurs were facing a tough Heat defense led by Kel'el Ware and Pelle Larsson. Jameer's Significance and Future Outlook Jameer Nelson Jr.'s Summer League debut is significant for several reasons. First, it highlights his potential to contribute at the professional level despite not being drafted. His ability to score efficiently and facilitate offense aligns well with the Spurs' culture of smart, team-oriented basketball. Moreover, his defensive tenacity, inherited in part from his college days where he averaged over two steals per game, adds value to his profile as a two-way guard. With the San Antonio Spurs continuing to develop young talent, Nelson Jr.'s strong Summer League showing could earn him more opportunities to prove himself in the G League and possibly secure a spot on an NBA roster in the near future. His basketball IQ, work ethic, and lineage as the son of a seasoned NBA player provide a solid foundation for growth. Warriors rookies Alex Toohey and Will Richard out for California Classic opener vs. Lakers

Saturday marked the return of basketball for the Golden State Warriors with the California Classic Summer League opener. Despite the return of hoops to Chase Center, Golden State's new rookies Alex Toohey and Will Richard's Summer League debut will have to wait. The Warriors were without both 2025 second-round picks Alex Toohey and Will Richard in Saturday's California Classic opener against the Los Angeles Lakers. According to Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area, Toohey and Richard weren't able to play on Saturday due to their draft day trades being unofficial. Via @DaltonJ_Johnson on X: Prior to the start of the second round, the Warriors traded the No. 41 overall selection to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for a pair of second-rounders. The Warriors used the No. 52 overall pick to select Toohey out of Australia. The Warriors then made another trade with the Memphis Grizzlies to move up to the No. 56 overall pick to draft Richard out of Florida. The Warriors will play three games in the California Classic before moving to Las Vegas for the remainder of the Summer League. This post originally appeared on Warriors Wire!
