Highly-rated Oregon OL target announces commitment days before visit to Ducks
Highly-rated Oregon OL target announces commitment days before visit to Ducks The Oregon Ducks are preparing for the start of an incredibly busy recruiting month this weekend, with a ton of high-profile official visits on tap over the next several weeks. Unfortunately for Dan Lanning and Co., one of the top visits that they had scheduled is now in doubt. On Tuesday morning, it was announced that 4-star IOL Tommy Tofi, the No. 97 player in the class and No. 6 IOL, would be committing to the California Golden Bears. Tofi, who stands at 6-foot-6, 330 pounds, was scheduled to take his official visit to Oregon this weekend, but that trip is now in question coming off of his commitment to Justin Wilcox and the Golden Bears. Tofi is a San Francisco kid who has been near the top of Oregon's recruiting board for a long time and a big target in the offensive line room. He is coming off of an official visit to California last weekend, so the timing is understandable for him to make his commitment from that perspective, but he did have OVs scheduled to Oregon this weekend, followed by trips to Tennessee and BYU. While he is verbally committed at the moment, it would come as no surprise to see A'lique Terry and his team continue to push in his recruitment and try to flip him to the Ducks before signing day takes place in December. This will be one to keep an eye on. Contact/Follow @Ducks_Wire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Oregon Ducks news, notes, and opinions.

Dawn Staley Sends Message to South Carolina Players' Major Life Update
Dawn Staley is staying busy this spring as she shifts her focus toward summer preparations with the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Hall of Fame coach has been active on the recruiting trail, diving into the transfer portal while also promoting her new book on tour. It's graduation season across the country, and many college basketball players are completing their degrees. Some are returning for a final season on the court. Advertisement Staley recently sent a heartfelt message to two of her players who graduated Saturday. One will return for another season with South Carolina, while the other is heading to a new destination for 2025–26. "THE @GamecockWBB GRADUATES! Congrats to @HollywoodRaven @SakimaWalker for finishing the academic race…degree them! I love this part more than anyone will ever know," Staley posted. Raven Johnson and Sakima Walker both earned their undergraduate degrees. Johnson is returning to play one more season with the Gamecocks, while Walker is transferring to finish her career with the California Golden Bears. Advertisement Johnson was part of the Gamecocks that won the title in 2022 and 2024, although she missed all but two games in the 2021-22 season due to a knee injury. In Columbia, she appeared in 114 games and started all 39 last season. A former Naismith Prep Player of the Year, Johnson starred at Westlake High School in Atlanta. South Carolina Gamecocks coach Dawn Lee-Imagn Images Walker joined South Carolina after two under-the-radar seasons at Rutgers. In her two seasons with the Gamecocks, she played in 46 games and made one start. She averaged 1.8 points per game. As Staley heads into her 18th season at the helm, South Carolina remains a powerhouse in women's college basketball. Under her leadership, the Gamecocks have reached at least the Final Four five years in a row, with three appearances in the national championship game. Aaron Rodgers Sparks Marriage Rumors With Mysterious Ring Appearance
This NFL offseason has been dominated by Aaron Rodgers, despite his consistent efforts to keep his personal life private — a trait he's maintained throughout much of his career. However, as the 41-year-old remains a free agent quarterback following the NFL draft, speculation has been swirling about where, or when, he might sign — or if he'll decide to retire, a possibility that seemed unlikely just a few months ago. Advertisement Rodgers made headlines again on Saturday night, but this time for a personal reason. Attending the Kentucky Derby, fans noticed what appeared to be an engagement ring on his left ring finger. The sighting immediately drew attention, especially following his recent appearance on the "Pat McAfee Show," where he hinted at having a special woman in his life. 'From the jump, I'm in a different phase of my life, I'm 41 years old [and] I'm in a serious relationship," Rodgers said in April. "I have off-field stuff going on that requires my attention.' Check it out his Kentucky Derby appearance: The post over 240,000 views and had several fans reacting to the video: Advertisement "Nice catch. Now it's starting to make sense," a fan said. "Could be something. Can't remember ever seeing him wearing any kind of ring--other than the Super Bowl one," another fan posted. "He did say he was in a serious relationship," someone else added. One more fan commented, "You know AR is throwing 35 TDs this year." California Golden Bears former quarterback Aaron Rodgers stands on the field before the start of the second quarter against the Stanford Cardinal at California Memorial Yamashita-Imagn Images Rodgers also made it clear during his McAfee interview that he's in no rush to make a decision about his future. He stated that those who need to know his intentions are already in the loop. "I'm open to anything and attached to nothing," Rodgers repeatedly said. ""People in my inner circle battling difficult stuff. To make a commitment to a team is a big thing." Advertisement Right now, it seems almost certain that his options have narrowed to just one: the Pittsburgh Steelers. With other teams filling their quarterback spots during free agency and the draft, it's looking like it's Pittsburgh or bust for the 2025 season if he decides to return. David Pollack Names College Football Program That's an 'Absolute Disaster'
The 2025 college football season is still a few months away, but teams have already wrapped up their spring practices and are fully focused on the transfer portal. One team that the portal has significantly impacted is the California Golden Bears, who have lost 28 players. Of those, 15 players entered the portal during the spring cycle, including five running backs. Among these running backs was Jaydn Ott, who was arguably their best player. Advertisement In his career, Ott has rushed for 2,597 yards and scored 24 touchdowns. Although he faced injuries during last season, he managed to run for 1,315 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023. He announced that he would be transferring to the Oklahoma Sooners. On his podcast, "See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack," college football analyst David Pollack discussed the situation at Cal and the challenges the team is facing. Cal head coach Justin Wilcox talking with an LeClaire-Imagn Images "Cal is a disaster right now," Pollack said. "Like, an absolute disaster. I'll say this: if you've watched Justin Wilcox coach the game of football, the dude is a good coach. Like, Cal has been consistently competitive with way less talent. He's confusing on defense. Always develops no-name guys and plays good defense. Plays a good brand of physical ball." Advertisement The Golden Bears have not had a winning season since 2019, when they finished with an 8-5 record. While they have participated in bowl games in the last two years, they lost both games, ending those seasons with 6-7 records. Since 2010, Cal has recorded only four winning seasons, indicating a lack of success over the past decade. Although the program hopes to turn things around in 2025, recent player losses to the transfer portal have made this goal more challenging. The Golden Bears have brought in 22 new players, but they currently rank No. 40 in the transfer portal team rankings and No. 69 in recruiting rankings. As a result, it does not appear that conditions will improve for the upcoming season. Cal begins the year with a game against the Oregon State Beavers on August 30. Nebraska wide receiver Nyziah Hunter ready to contribute this fall
Nebraska wide receiver Nyziah Hunter ready to contribute this fall Nebraska football receiver Nyziah Hunter had positive things to say about the program's brand as he met with the media on Thursday afternoon. Hunter is coming over from the California Golden Bears, where he had a solid freshman season. He recorded 40 catches for 578 yards and five touchdowns last season, establishing himself as a playmaking threat. He recorded at least four receptions in six games in 2024 and was a key piece of the Golden Bears' offense. He will look to serve a similar role with the Huskers. He joins a wide receiver room loaded with talent and figures to be part of the equation. Offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen had positive things to say about entire wide receivers room but believes there's still a lot of room to grow. When talking to the media on Thursday, Holgorsen said that Hunter is a strong and physical football player but also has deceptive speed. "You could see that on video when we recruited him. He would make contested catches. He would run through, break tackles. He's a physical guy. He's 205 pounds and it plays physical. I've coached 210-pound guys that don't play physical. Nyziah does. He's got above average speed. He got behind a corner on a go route here, which I haven't seen that since I've been here. As a wideout just actually running by somebody and catching it over his shoulder. That was encouraging." Hunter understands the importance of playing for the Huskers and what the brand means, as transcribed by the Omaha World-Herald's Sam McKewon. "Nebraska, the brand, will get you to the league." Hunter's playmaking ability and deep threat potential will certainly be fun to watch in the fall. The fact that he knows the importance of playing for the Huskers makes it that much more exciting.
