Exhibition charity opening

An acclaimed Queenstown-born artist's turning an exhibition opening next month into a Bruce Grant Youth Trust fundraiser to support local youth in their arts, cultural and sporting pursuits.
Ira Mitchell — whose artistic journey's deeply rooted in the landscapes of her Glenorchy childhood — launches her solo show, "Calling Home", at Arrowtown's Lakes District Museum on September 4.
She feels the trust's values align with her own commitment to encourage youth in all passion projects.
And, as it happens, the trust — named after a local mountaineer and adventurer who perished 30 years ago next Wednesday, after summiting K2 — is increasing its fundraising efforts to mark that anniversary.
Mitchell says she's also thrilled to give back to a community that's supported her.
For the opening night, entry's by $20 donation, though top-ups will be gratefully received.
Local businesses are also supporting the event by sponsoring refreshments and prizes to be auctioned off.
