Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to leave Everton after contract talks stall
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to leave Everton after negotiations on a new deal stalled. The 28-year-old striker is out of contract at the end of the month and an extension that had previously been offered to him earlier in the season was taken off the table after a change in the management structure at the top of the club. Everton's interest in Liam Delap indicated they were looking elsewhere, although the forward opted to move to Chelsea from Ipswich Town in a £30million move. Officially, Everton have said they will continue to liaise with Calvert-Lewin's representatives, but the expectation is he will begin the search for a new club. Calvert-Lewin, who joined Everton from Sheffield United in 2016, will be available on a free transfer and will hope his status makes him an attractive proposition at home and abroad. He forced his way into the England squad for the delayed Euro 2020 after scoring 16 Premier League goals under Carlo Ancelotti in 2020-21 when instructed to operate in the penalty area and focus on first-time finishes. He also started 32 Premier League matches that season, accumulating 2,876 minutes across the course of the league campaign. Since then, Calvert-Lewin has scored 17 top-flight goals and he returned from a three-month layoff, after a serious hamstring injury, just before the end of the season. Everton are also talking to the centre back Michael Keane, but it is anticipated he will look elsewhere. Idrissa Gueye, 35, has been offered a new one-year deal, but is seeking a longer contract as negotiations continue. The club captain Seamus Coleman, 36, has also been offered a playing contract despite an injury-hit campaign. The upheaval at the Merseyside club is largely unprecedented this summer, with an overhaul of the playing squad needed after four loan players returned to their parent clubs in Jack Harrison, Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrom and Armando Broja. A £12.6million deal has been struck with Flamengo for Charly Alcaraz, who did well after arriving on loan in January. He has signed a two-year contract, with Everton having an option to extend it by a further 12 months. Everton have already released Abdoulaye Doucouré, who rejected being asked to take a pay cut, Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic, Joao Virginia, Neal Maupay and Mason Holgate.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin reveals 'rock bottom' moment at Everton as out-of-contract striker opens up on Champions League and England aims
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has admitted he was left 'crying on his bedroom floor' in the lowest moment of his career as he attempted to help Everton avoid relegation. The 28-year-old, who has been with Everton since 2016, scored the goal that confirmed their top flight status during the 2021-22 season netting the winner in a 3-2 win over Crystal Palace. Calvert-Lewin's goal came amid an injury-plagued season, which he claimed added to the pressure having thought it was 'his responsibility to save everybody' at the club. Speaking on the High Performance Podcast, Calvert-Lewin said he had been at 'rock bottom' weeks before the match. 'I did an Instagram post [at the end of the season] which was an outburst of emotion,' Calvert-Lewin said. 'I can look back in hindsight and reflect on what it was, I scored the goal against Palace that kept Everton in the league and that feeling I will never be able to describe. 'It was the weight of my own pressure, the football club. I am quite and emotional person and I put that weight on my shoulders. I thought it was my responsibility to save everybody, save jobs and that's a lot to put on your shoulders. When I scored that goal it was relief. 'On my birthday, four or five weeks before I scored that goal, that was a low point for me. I ended up crying on my bedroom floor, I think it was not knowing how to express what I was feeling in that moment. Feeling that things are getting away from you. 'You have all the pressure of the football club on your shoulders and at the time I couldn't play, as I had another injury. I was thinking it was a rock bottom moment for me. I felt better after I cried and let out that emotion, and was like "I'm going to save Everton Football Club".' Calvert-Lewin admitted he regretted how he worded his social media post at the end of the season by saying 'talking saved my life', rather than 'changed my life'. He admitted it had made his issues appear worse that it was, but reflected he had wanted to encourage younger people to feel able to speak out when encountering problems. The 28-year-old also admitted some of his commercial work at the time had wrongly led to fans thinking he was not focused on football, suggesting supporters were less able to relate to him. Calvert-Lewin's father previously spoke out against abuse of his son in August 2023, while last month the forward's wife Sandra revealed she had been the subject of 'threatening, racist and misogynistic abuse'. The abuse followed Sandra posting on Instagram: '30 goals at Goodison. Top 3 ever. They might not shout it — but we're proud every single day.' Calvert-Lewin's Everton contract is set to expire at the end of the month, with the forward revealing his ambitions to play in a 'winning environment' to help his Champions League and England ambitions. Calvert-Lewin has earned 11 England caps to date but has not played for the national team since 2021 'I have to be careful with what I say because I am still contracted to Everton, I have a long history with Everton and a big respect for the club,' he said. 'The main thing for me is I want to win, I want to be in a winning environment. After the last three or four seasons it has been about survival. 'When I started my career I wanted to play in the Premier League, play for England a go to major tournaments with England and play in the Champions League. I have played in a major tournament for England, I have played in the Premier League, but I haven't played in the Champions League. There are still things I would like to achieve before my time is done. 'To have the opportunity to decide potentially where that place will be. If it gives me the best opportunity and environment to win and score goals, then that would be the return of me to the England team and playing in the Champions League. 'That has been my driver to play at the highest level possible. My representation of that is the Champions League, World Cups, Euros and getting into that bracket of elite players.' Calvert-Lewis has earned 11 England caps to date, scoring four goals for the national team. Despite being a member of the squad to reach the European Championship final in 2021, Calvert-Lewin has not featured for the national team since.

Ashley Young to leave Everton in summer with several key players out of contract at end of season
Everton will release Ashley Young this summer when his contract at Goodison Park ends. The 39-year-old, the oldest player in the Premier League this season, will depart along with back-up goalkeepers Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia after Everton opted not to offer them new deals. Manager David Moyes expects the club to announce in the next couple of weeks their decisions about many of the other players whose contracts expire at the end of the campaign. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane are also in the last few weeks of their contracts while Carlos Alcaraz, Jack Harrison, Jesper Lindstrom, Armando Broja and Orel Mangala are only on loan at Goodison Park. Both Doucoure and Keane have said they have not yet been offered new deals, with the midfielder indicating he is keen to stay. Former Manchester United captain Young has made 68 appearances for Everton since being signed by his former Watford teammate Sean Dyche two years ago. He was a regular for Dyche but has only started two league games under Moyes. Young, who made his Premier League debut in 2006, has also played in the division for Watford and Aston Villa as well as winning Serie A with Internazionale. Manager David Moyes said: 'Since my return to the club, I've seen what a great professional Ash is and know the leadership qualities he has brought to the squad during his time at Everton. His versatility, experience and know-how have also been really beneficial to the team and me. Asmir and Joao have also worked really hard and conducted themselves impeccably. 'I want to thank all three players for their service and we wish them all the very best for the future.' Moyes faces a busy summer as he looks to reshape his squad and added: 'This is a complicated situation in many respects, with so many players out of contract this summer. It's important to me to speak with all of those players, individually, to give them clarity on their situations. 'Lots of factors influence our decision-making and we're currently working through that process with the players, which takes time. Some will have clarity by the end of this week, and for others it may get to next week, but it's important it's handled in the right way. 'We also have five players on loan and we'll let them know their situations in due course.'

Everton news: Opinion - Thoughts turning to next season
Just three games to go. The pressure is off to a large extent but fans – and David Moyes - will still want to see good performances and a victory (or three). The draws have been frustrating, none more so than Saturday's with Ipswich having been 2-0 up. Moyes talked about not having enough shots and that was certainly true in the second half, so maybe that is something they will work on between now and the end of the season. Beto's goal will give him confidence and Dominic Calvert-Lewin made his return from the bench, so there are some positives there. It will be interesting to see if Calvert-Lewin is fit enough to start at Fulham on Saturday, or whether it will be a cautious approach between now and the end of the campaign. I was there to see Fulham beat Liverpool a few weeks ago so it will certainly be a tough trip, and the Whites retain hopes of a European spot should results fall their way. It is a good test for Everton and for Moyes against a side they may look to overhaul next season as part of their development process. This campaign is not over yet but thoughts will be turning to the next one.
