Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to leave Everton after contract talks stall
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to leave Everton after negotiations on a new deal stalled.
The 28-year-old striker is out of contract at the end of the month and an extension that had previously been offered to him earlier in the season was taken off the table after a change in the management structure at the top of the club.
Everton's interest in Liam Delap indicated they were looking elsewhere, although the forward opted to move to Chelsea from Ipswich Town in a £30million move.
Officially, Everton have said they will continue to liaise with Calvert-Lewin's representatives, but the expectation is he will begin the search for a new club.
Calvert-Lewin, who joined Everton from Sheffield United in 2016, will be available on a free transfer and will hope his status makes him an attractive proposition at home and abroad.
He forced his way into the England squad for the delayed Euro 2020 after scoring 16 Premier League goals under Carlo Ancelotti in 2020-21 when instructed to operate in the penalty area and focus on first-time finishes.
He also started 32 Premier League matches that season, accumulating 2,876 minutes across the course of the league campaign.
Since then, Calvert-Lewin has scored 17 top-flight goals and he returned from a three-month layoff, after a serious hamstring injury, just before the end of the season.
Everton are also talking to the centre back Michael Keane, but it is anticipated he will look elsewhere.
Idrissa Gueye, 35, has been offered a new one-year deal, but is seeking a longer contract as negotiations continue. The club captain Seamus Coleman, 36, has also been offered a playing contract despite an injury-hit campaign.
The upheaval at the Merseyside club is largely unprecedented this summer, with an overhaul of the playing squad needed after four loan players returned to their parent clubs in Jack Harrison, Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrom and Armando Broja.
A £12.6million deal has been struck with Flamengo for Charly Alcaraz, who did well after arriving on loan in January. He has signed a two-year contract, with Everton having an option to extend it by a further 12 months.
Everton have already released Abdoulaye Doucouré, who rejected being asked to take a pay cut, Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic, Joao Virginia, Neal Maupay and Mason Holgate.

CRYSTAL PALACE are expected to be left in limbo over their European fate until June 27. The Eagles sealed a place in the Europa League group stages for the first time in their history by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final. 1 But complications around John Textor's stake in both Palace and French club Lyon have resulted in the South Londoners' spot being in doubt. There was hope at Selhurst Park that a quick resolution would be found, but Uefa's Club Financial Control Body is not expected to announce their decision until the end of this month. Uefa rules on multi-club ownership prevent any two clubs controlled by the same person or group from competing in the same competition. Both Palace and Lyon have qualified for next year's Europa League, but the Ligue 1 side would have precedence as they finished higher in their domestic league. Textor is the majority owner of Lyon and Palace's largest shareholder at 43 per cent. The American could have placed his Eagles shares into a blind trust, as many other owners have done to avoid this outcome, though the deadline to do so was March 1. Palace have already met with Uefa in Switzerland arguing that Textor has no controlling influence at Crystal Palace. While he is the largest shareholder, the billionaire has an equal 25 per cent voting right and has complained about a lack of control and influence in the past. Senior figures at the club are therefore confident that they will be able to find an agreement with Uefa which will see them take part in the Europa League next season. A resolution could come sooner should Textor simply sell his shares. The 59-year-old has been looking to sell his stake in Palace for some time now following a breakdown in relations with chairman Steve Parish. Textor, who tried to buy Everton last year, is now thought to be open to selling his shares to fellow American investors David Blitzer and Joshua Harris. Any deal would be difficult to complete in such a short timeframe, though it would immediately put an end to any concerns over breaching Uefa rules. Were the CFBC to find against Palace, Forest would move up into their Europa League spot from the Conference League while Brighton would find themselves in Europe.
