Ceiling Collapses at Movie Theater During Captain America Screening
The post Ceiling Collapses at Movie Theater During Captain America Screening appeared first on Consequence. The ceiling of a movie theater in Wenatchee, Washington collapsed this week during a screening of Captain America: Brave New World. The freak incident occurred on Tuesday night at Wenatchee's Liberty Cinema when two moviegoers were catching an 8 p.m. screening of the film. Thankfully, both attendees made it out okay with no reported injuries. Photos and video shared by Wenatchee Valley Fire Department, though, show just how scary the collapse was, with the first three rows of the theater destroyed in a mess of rubble, wood beams, and insulation. Funnily, the movie itself is still playing in the background of the video (because, as one Instagram commenter said, 'The movie must go on!'). According to an interview with Wenatchee Valley Fire Battalion Chief Cam Phillips, the moviegoers — a couple — 'heard some pops and cracking,' before one of them stood up to investigate the source of the sounds. Looking up at the ceiling in front of the screen, the individual evidently realized what was about to happen, and told his girlfriend to 'Run!' She didn't have time to react though, and found herself covered in debris moments later. The collapse was reportedly 'unexpected,' and both the theater and first responders have commented on how lucky it was that the attendees were unharmed and that the theater wasn't more crowded at the time. Captain America: Brave New World premiered in February, and has already earned nearly $300 million at the box office, making it the third-highest grossing film of the year so far.
