Firefighters extinguish flames at Cambridge business
A man has been arrested following a fire at an abandoned building in Cambridge. One person has been arrested following a fire at a vacant building in Cambridge. Members of Cambridge Fire were called to 11 Walnut Street, near Ainslie Street South, around 10 p.m. Sunday. While the flames were put out quickly, crews remained on scene until the smoke cleared from the building. Waterloo Regional Police said no one was hurt. They did, however, confirmed one person had been arrested, but no further details were shared about any charges or the cause of the fire. A sign with the name 'Grand River Medicinal' is still displayed on the building. Police shut down the illegal cannabis dispensary on Aug. 14, 2024.

Fire at abandoned commercial business in Cambridge
Cambridge Fire crews are investigating following a fire at an abandoned commercial business on Sunday night, August 11, 2025 (Sidra Jafri/CTV News). Cambridge Fire and Waterloo Regional Police are investigating following a fire at an abandoned commercial business on Sunday night. Cambridge Fire told CTV News they received the report of the fire at 11 Walnut Street near Ainslie Street South at 10 p.m. They were able to put out the fire in a couple of hours, mainly focusing on smoke ventilation. No one was hurt. Cambridge Fire told CTV News the fire was deemed criminal and police are investigating. On Monday around 8 a.m. a Cambridge Fire vehicle and a City of Cambridge vehicle could be seen outside the abandoned 'Grand River Medicinal.' Fire prevention remained on scene Monday as they looked for the source of the fire.

Ontario Fire Marshal investigating ‘suspicious' house fire in Cambridge
Emergency services responded to a house fire in Cambridge Thursday night. In an email to CTV News, the Waterloo Regional Police Service said they had been called to the area of Roseview Avenue and Malcolm Street around 9 p.m. Police said the residence was cleared out at the time, with Cambridge Fire confirming no one was inside upon their arrival. Police said no one was hurt. Police confirmed the same home had shots fired into it a month before. They said there has been no evidence so far that connect the incidents. The building was significantly damaged. The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) became involved with the investigation into the fire. They told CTV News in an email the fire was considered suspicious. The OFM said the fire was extinguished around midnight.
