Toronto dh george springer 'doing all right' after getting struck in the head by a fastball
George Springer twisted his head, absorbed the full impact of a fastball near the ear flap of his helmet, and dropped to the ground in a heap. As Toronto's designated hitter lay prone at the plate, the raucous crowd of 20,176 at Camden Yards immediately became silent. Quite suddenly, Baltimore's seven-run ninth-inning lead over the Blue Jays on Monday night became of secondary importance to the condition of Springer, who was essentially motionless in the dirt. After several anxious moments, Springer slowly lifted his head. He mouthed the word 'Wow!' before walking to the dugout with aid from a man on each side. 'Whew. He's doing all right,' manager John Schneider said afterward. 'Kind of got him on the shoulder and then the helmet. Thankfully, he was able to turn a little bit, too.' It was as good a result as could be expected after the 96 mph pitch from Kade Stroud struck Springer in the head in the Blue Jays' 11-4 loss. Stroud crouched behind the mound, a worried look on his face as he watched, waiting, and desperately hoping for Springer to get up. 'That's the worst part of baseball for any side, when a pitch gets thrown that high,' Schneider said. 'You don't think about baseball. You think about the human. It's scary. It happens. It sucks.' Schneider was among the first to know that Springer was not in a life-threatening situation. 'He was alert the whole time,' Schneider said. 'He was kind of talking to me…which is a good thing. But you hate seeing that happen to anyone at any time.'

Orioles national anthem performer goes viral with astonishing rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner
Baltimore Orioles fans were treated to a very different version of the national anthem on Sunday, when a performer whistled the tune of The Star-Spangled Banner at Camden Yards. The Orioles cruised to a 5-1 win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday to improve to 47-58 for the season. Before the game, Chris Ullman came out on to the field to perform the national anthem. He is four-time international whistling champion and he showed off his skills at Camden Yards. The performance quickly went viral, with fans on social media calling Ullman 'amazing' and even the 'GOAT' (Greatest Of All Time). 'This performance really blew us away,' the Orioles wrote alongside the video on Instagram. He was also given a huge ovation by fans inside the stadium. But it is not the first time that Ullman has performed at Camden Yards. In May 2024, he whistled the national anthem before the Orioles secured a 6-1 win against the Boston Red Sox. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Baltimore Orioles (@orioles) Ullman previously serenaded former president George W. Bush and vice president Dick Cheney in a private concert in the Oval Office. He has also performed at events involving the Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards, Washington Nationals and Duke men's basketball team. His journey to Camden Yards began when he was a teenager and would whistle 'incessantly' while on his paper round. According to his website, Ullman now whistles 'Happy Birthday' to more than 650 people a year. He is also the president of Ullman Communications, a 'strategic advisory firm'.

Singer labeled a 'disgrace to America' after bizarre national anthem rendition
Baseball fans at the Baltimore Orioles game were left stunned on Thursday afternoon after electronic musician Dan Deacon performed a bizarre version of the national anthem. A half-full Camden Yards stood to attention for the Star-Spangled Banner ahead of a double header against the New York Mets, but were forced to listen to what some described as a 'disgrace to America'. Opting against the usual vocal-only rendition, Deacon - a Baltimore-based musician - used auto-tune technology to create a sound that has to be heard to be believed... and some were left underwhelmed by the change-up. On social media, Deacon quickly went viral, racking up close to a million views, with one fan noting: 'I think the Orioles have officially hit rock bottom.' Another added: 'This is a disgrace to America', while a third said: 'You can literally see people thinking "what the f*** is this?"' Others, though, felt Deacon's efforts were a breath of fresh air and one fan was quick to defend the singer, claiming: 'No Dan Deacon slander will be tolerated.' Another supporter added: 'That kinda slapped tbh... I dig it!' In the video clip from the stadium, fans can be seen looking confused as the anthem gets underway, as they try to get used to the bizarre special effects being used. On his Instagram account, Deacon himself posted a clip of the rendition, alongside the caption 'Go Os'. Baltimore's pregame national anthem is already shrouded in some controversy, because fans yell 'Oh!' in the middle of it. While fans of some teams feel it is disrespectful, locals stand by the tradition. At the start of the seventh line - 'Oh say does that star-spangled banner yet wave' - Baltimore sports fans over-pronounce the first word.
