Seven arrested during joint operation in Campbell County
CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Campbell County Sheriff's Office says a joint operation with other local law enforcement during 'Operation Hide and Seek' resulted in the arrests of 7 people. On Friday, February 28 the Hide and Seek operation was completed and the following were arrested on said charges: Richard A Beavers (37) of Gladys, VA – 18.2-456 Failure to appear and 19.2-123 Violate Conditions of release. (Narcotics-related) Amanda Wood (32) -18.2-192 Credit Card Theft Casey J Gibson (36) of Lynch Station, VA – 18.2-456 Failure to appear (Restitution-related) John P Colbert (44) of Evington, VA – 18.2-51.6 Strangulation Marquell D Payne (29) of Lynch Station, VA – 18.2-60 Threats in writing Sara L Doyle (36) of Lynchburg, VA – 18.2-456 Failure to Appear Angela Mayhew (Taken into Custody) 18.2-250 Possession of SCH I/II narcotics and 18.2-308.4 Possession of a firearm while in possession of narcotics. Court documents reveal Pierce allegedly shot victims at child safe exchange drop-off The following items were seized: 37 Firearms Stolen Firearm Stolen Property Illegal Narcotics The operation was completed by the Campbell County Sheriff's Office's Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) and the field division, the Virginia State Police's Operation Snow Eagle, as well as the Central Virginia Drug and Gang Task Force, District 13 Probation and Parole, CCSO's Criminal Investigations Division, and Field Division. Campbell County corrections officer fired, charged after allegedly chasing man
LAFOLLETTE, Tenn. (WATE) — A corrections officer was arrested after he allegedly chased a man in his truck near LaFollette after being told the victim flipped off his girlfriend. The victim called the Campbell County Sheriff's Office on January 31, saying that the corrections officer, Logan Walden, 21, had chased him with a truck up Loop Road after reportedly being told that the victim had flipped of Walden's girlfriend. During the chase, Walden called him on Snapchat, threatening the victim, an affidavit of complaint states. Violence reduction nonprofit reacts to Knoxville shooting that injured child The victim knew that Walden was a member of law enforcement, and he was afraid that Walden would hit his vehicle, so he pulled over, the affidavit continues. Walden then allegedly got out of his truck and tried to fight him. The victim then grabbed his pistol from his vehicle, pointed it at the ground and told the officer he wasn't going to fight. When he saw the pistol, Walden retreated to his truck but said that this was 'not over,' and that he would 'get him,' the victim reported. After this, Walden reportedly called Central Dispatch. He said that he had pulled the victim over to see if he needed help and that the victim had then pulled a gun on him the affidavit said. It continues to explain that Walden said that, if he had his own gun, he would have shot the victim, according to court records. Law enforcement got statements from both Walden and the victim. Walden reportedly said the victim had flipped off his girlfriend and ran her off the road. However, Walden's statement did not match what he had told dispatch, the affidavit states. The affidavit continues to state that the administrator accused Walden of lying and Walden nodded his head and said, 'Yes.' Campbell County Sheriff launching neighborhood watch ‘CARE' program
CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Campbell County Sheriff's Office has announced a new electronic neighborhood watch program called CARE. CARE Alerts are hosted by Captain Stuart Herndon in the Haberer Building Boardroom at 47 Courthouse Lane in Rustburg Thursday, February 20, at 6 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the meeting will be moved to Thursday, February 27. Residents, including members of the local neighborhood watch groups, are welcome to attend the event to learn about the program and ask any questions at the event. CARE stands for Community and Responder Engagement, which allows residents to register for public safety updates through texts or email to keep their neighborhood safe. The CARE Alerts program urged residents in the community to provide updates on local crime trends, safety tips, and events. The updates will be turned into an instant notification that includes suspicious activities near their area, road closures, and other announcements. United Bank makes donation for security cameras to Lynchburg's Peacemakers Streets Initiative 'Safety is a shared responsibility, and our goal is to create a stronger connection between law enforcement and the community,' said Sheriff Whit Clark. 'With this program, we are leveraging technology to keep our residents informed and engaged, helping us build a proactive approach to public safety.'
