Choir concert raises £1,200 for Paul Sartori Hospice

The event, organised by the Pembroke Dock Community Choir, took place on March 8 at Pater Hall, Pembroke Dock, and raised £1,234 for Paul Sartori Hospice at Home. The evening featured performances from both the Pembroke Dock Community Choir and the Paul Sartori Community Choir. The two choirs came together for a special joint rendition of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" as the finale. The Pembrokeshire Lindy Hoppers also performed a dance routine. Nigel Arthur, a member of the Pembroke Dock Community Choir, said: "We thought that maybe we would try and do a concert to raise funds for Paul Sartori. "Being a 50–60 strong choir, quite a few members have had help for family members in the past from this charity. "We raised an incredible amount, and we were very pleased. "It was a thoroughly enjoyable night for us all and worth it in raising a great amount for this wonderful charity." Jo Lutwyche, community relationship officer for Paul Sartori, said: "We are so grateful to the Pembroke Dock Community Choir for organising this very enjoyable night. "The Pembrokeshire Lindy Hoppers as well as the Paul Sartori Community Choir added to the evening." The Pembroke Dock Community Choir is open to new members and meets every Wednesday at 5.15pm during term time at Pembroke Dock Community School Hall. The Paul Sartori Community Choir was established in April 2022 to bring people together after the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and to raise awareness and funds for the charity. Now, three years on, the choir continues to support Paul Sartori Hospice at Home and other worthy causes, performing at joint community fundraising events across the county. Paul Sartori Hospice at Home provides a range of services to Pembrokeshire people living in the final stages of a life-limiting illness and the Paul Sartori Community Choir extends the support to the wider community. Elton John, 78, Reveals How His Serious Health Issues Are Impacting His Ability to See His Sons

Elton John has been suffering from serious health problems for years — but the aftermath of a severe infection has made it so he physically cannot see his sons in some instances. Speaking to The Timesin a candid interview published earlier this month, the legendary singer, 78, discussed just how badly his eyesight has been following the 2024 infection. 'I can't see the telly! I haven't been able to see anything since last July," revealed John, who is now blind in his right eye and has partial vision in his left. 'I can see you," he told the Times reporter, "but I can't see TV, I can't read." One of the most heartbreaking effects of the infection for John has to be his inability to watch his kids — he shares sons Zachary, 14, and Elijah, 12, with husband David Furnish — engage in their favorite activities. "I can't see my boys playing rugby and soccer, and it has been a very stressful time because I'm used to soaking it all up," the five-time Grammy winner said. "It's distressing." Despite the severity of his health issues, John is resilient and thankful for all of the blessings and achievements he has experienced in his life and career — the most important being his family of four. The "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" singer has also accepted his new physical limitations, embodying the popular British motto, "Keep calm and carry on." "You get emotional, but you have to get used to it because I'm lucky to have the life I have," John told The Times. "I still have my wonderful family, and I can still see something out of here," he said, pointing to his left eye. 'So you say to yourself, just get on with it.' The "Rocketman" artist — who has been making his way around the press circuit in promotion of his new album, Who Believes in Angels?, a collaborative record with Brandi Carlile — has faced his mortality head on. During a recent concert, per the Daily Mail, John told the audience the four-letter phrase he wants engraved on his tombstone. "On my tombstone, I want nothing to do with 'Crocodile f***ing Rock,'" he told the crowd. "I just want it to say: 'He was a great dad'."

Elton John reveals why he was sobbing at the piano in moving footage

Elton John has revealed the emotional reason why he broke down crying at his keyboard in moving footage from a forthcoming short film. This week, the celebrated singer-songwriter announced his latest album, Who Believes in Angels?, a collaboration with US artist Brandi Carlile. The news was accompanied by a trailer for a short film that offers unprecedented behind-the-scenes footage of John and his creative partners writing and recording the album. In one striking moment, John can be seen sobbing at the piano as Carlile gives him a hug. 'This [has] never happened to me in my whole career,' he confesses, wiping his tears away. In a new interview with The Guardian, John explained that he had realised the song he and Carlile were working on was about the end of his life, and stumbled as he sang the line: 'Return me to the tide.' 'The glasses came off, his whole body is crumpled over the piano, he wept,' Carlile said. 'We're having this really profound moment where Elton has come face to face with his mortality without really being able to say it.' John apparently looked up eventually and asked, 'Is it too Lion King?' – referring to his Oscar-winning song 'Can You Feel the Love Tonight' from Disney's 1994 animated film – which caused the others to burst out laughing. 'It was unbelievable,' Carlile said. 'At first, it was the saddest thing I've ever seen, and then it got really funny, really fast.' 'It touched a nerve,' John said, 'because I have children now and I have a husband, and it's not just being 'Elton' on his own, it's wanting to be with the people I love.' In the trailer for the short film, John admits he was a 'nightmare' to work with as Carlile, producer Andrew Watt and his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin endeavoured to create the record together. 'I was exhausted, I had a lot of doubt,' he says in a voiceover clip, while Carlile says he was 'prone to moments of insecurity, especially when the stakes were high'. In one scene, Watt can be heard telling him: 'Dude, I'm just trying to make the song as best it can be, you're so impatient!' In another, a visibly grouchy John snaps at Watt after he asks if he's ready to record: 'Why do you think I'm sitting here?' The 'Rocket Man' artist, the subject of an Oscar-winning film and a bestselling memoir in recent years, apparently felt the pressure was on after completing his farewell tour with a huge headline show at Glastonbury Festival in 2023. Things began to turn around for the album as he realised: 'There [are] other people involved. I can't abandon it. And the fog started to lift. Once we got going, Jesus.' He added: 'I wanted to play better, sing better, write better, and challenge myself at the age I am. Brandi really pushed me. For me it's immaculate. This came out the way I wanted it to come out.' Who Believes in Angels is scheduled for release on 4 April 2025; the title track is out now.
