Amy Macdonald reveals Glasgow's TRNSMT inspired new album
The singer, from Bishopbriggs, will release her sixth studio album, Is This What You've Been Waiting For?, in July.
She delighted a packed crowd of hundreds in Princes Square last week and debuted her new single, which is the title track.
Amy beamed as she played her new single (Image: Newsquest/Colin Mearns) Speaking about the inspiration for it and the new album, Amy said: 'I write all these songs and they're all like their own unique little stories.
'That one [Is This What You've Been Waiting For?] started off with me just being absolutely blown away seeing all the videos of U2 playing in the Sphere venue in Vegas and just realising how amazing live music is, and nothing can replicate that.
'AI is coming on leaps and bounds and within music a lot of people are worried, but actually can anything ever replace a live gig?
'Even though you see these hologram ones, and I think the ABBA one's meant to be great, it's just not the same.
'You're not going to have that connection.'

Another song on the album was inspired by Amy's performance at Glasgow's TRNSMT festival in 2021.
She explained: 'Can You Hear Me? was actually inspired by the audience at the TRNSMT Festival.
'Before I went out, I panicked a bit. I thought, gosh, they're so young that they won't even know any of my songs, like this is going to be so bad.
The TRNSMT crowd loved Amy's tunes (Image: Lesley Martin/PA Archive/PA Images) 'And then they knew everything, and I was so blown away, and I was just so moved, just seeing such happiness, and they were all just so joyful, and it was really inspiring in a world of just total doom and gloom.
'Especially for young people these days, and just seeing everybody having a great time, it just made me think, 'do you know what we shouldn't be so fearful if this is the future generation'.'

Amy also revealed her favourite show she's played in Glasgow, having played gigs here for her entire career, she said: 'I think one of my ultimate ones was the first time I played the Barrowlands, in 2007.
'Because that had been a total goal for me, it was like the pinnacle, and it was just before Christmas, and my album had been out for about six months.
'I was awarded that night with my first ever platinum disc. I remember it was given to me by Jim Gellatly, the radio DJ.
'He was the first person ever to play me on the radio, so he came on the stage and gave me my platinum disc, and it will be a fond memory for a long time.'

Speaking about playing the city's biggest stage again, Amy said: 'I never wanted to play there [Hydro] the first time around, and my manager had to force me into it because I was like, "Oh, we'll just play like a few nights at the Barrowlands' and they were like, "No, no, we'll be able to sell it out." And I never thought I would, but we did.
'So, this time I think everybody thinks I'd be relaxed, but I'm even more nervous this time.'
