OTTAWA, ON, Aug. 12, 2025 /CNW/ - The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) is conducting a federal impact assessment for the proposed Sorel-Tracy Port Terminal Project a new port terminal located in the industrial-port zone of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. IAAC invites Indigenous Peoples and the public to review and provide feedback on the summary of the proponent's Impact Statement. This document identifies the potential impacts of the project on the environment, particularly on the federal components of the project, including fish and fish habitat, migratory birds, and Indigenous peoples, and the measures proposed to mitigate them. QSL International Ltd. is proposing the construction and operation of a new port terminal in the industrial-port zone of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. As proposed, the Sorel-Tracy Port Terminal Project would include a new floating wharf and related intermodal infrastructures. The project would support the transportation of agricultural goods, fertilizers, road salt and oversized steel parts and would accommodate up to 35 ships per year.

Greenlight Electricity Centre Limited Partnership is proposing the construction, operation, and decommissioning of a new power generating facility fueled by natural gas, located in Alberta's Industrial Heartland, about 10 kilometres east of Gibbons. As proposed, the Greenlight Electricity Centre Project would consist of four gas/steam turbine line-ups with a combined production capacity of up to 1,864 megawatts, heat recovery steam generators, an electrical transmission line, and a natural gas pipeline. The project is expected to be in operation for at least 40 years.

Yellowhead Copper Project - Comments Invited & Information Sessions
OTTAWA, ON, Aug. 5, 2025 /CNW/ - Taseko Mines Limited (the proponent) is proposing the construction, operation, and closure of a new open-pit copper mine located about 150 kilometres northeast of Kamloops, British Columbia. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) and British Columbia's Environmental Assessment Office (the EAO) are working cooperatively on the initial phase of the project's review. You are invited to review the Initial Project Description and provide feedback. A summary document, in English or French, is available on the project's Registry page (reference number 89694). The comment period starts August 5, 2025, and ends September 15, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Comments received will support the preparation of a joint Summary of Issues and Engagement document that will be given to the proponent. The proponent will be required to provide a response which IAAC will consider in its early decision whether the project requires further review of its potential adverse effects within federal jurisdiction. Comments only need to be submitted once to either IAAC or the EAO to be considered in both the federal and provincial assessment processes. OTTAWA, ON, July 17, 2025 /CNW/ - The Joint Assessment Committee (the Joint Committee), comprising of representatives from the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) and the Cree Nation Government, is conducting a federal impact assessment for the proposed Mont Sorcier Mining Project, a new open-pit iron and vanadium mine, located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay Territory, in Quebec. As part of the planning phase in the federal impact assessment process, the Joint Committee invites Indigenous Peoples and the public to review and provide feedback on the draft Tailored Impact Statement Guidelines (draft Guidelines) and the draft Public Participation Plan (draft Plan). The draft Guidelines outline the specific factors to be considered in the assessment of the project and provide direction to the proponent, Voyager Metals Inc., on the studies and information required in its Impact Statement. The draft Plan explains how the public will be engaged throughout the review process and provides details on how and when public participation opportunities will take place for each phase of the impact assessment. Voyager Metals Inc. is proposing the construction, operation, decommissioning, and closure of an open-pit iron and vanadium mine located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay Territory, in the municipality of Chibougamau, about 20 kilometres northeast of the Town of Chibougamau, Quebec, in the traditional Cree territory. As proposed, the Mont Sorcier Mining Project would include a pit and the construction of an ore processing facility. The proponent also plans to build a 49-kilometre railroad that would connect to the existing track to transport the concentrate by train to the Grande-Anse Marine Terminal, where it would be stockpiled for export purposes. The mine's production capacity would be about 5 million tonnes per year (average rate of 13,700 tonnes/day) and the estimated life of the project would be 21 years.
