A brief cooldown comes to the Pittsburgh area before a long dry weather stretch

Some low clouds remain across the southern half of our forecast area this morning in the wake of a cold front that passed through the region yesterday. These clouds will gradually diminish from northwest to southeast, and most of the area will be clear later this afternoon. WEATHER LINKS: Current Conditions | School Closings & Delays | Submit Your Weather Photos Temperatures are cooler by about 10 degrees or so across the area, and dew points are 10-15 degrees lower, resulting in a refreshing Friday morning for most of our area. Highs will reach the mid to upper 70s area-wide, then drop into the low to mid 50s for most tonight. Some upper 40s are possible in our rural counties, mainly northeast of Pittsburgh toward I-80. If Pittsburgh sees a low of 57 or lower, this would be the coolest night in the city since June 11, 2025. A strong and slow-moving high pressure will allow for several days of dry northeasterly flow into this weekend and early next week. Some patches of Canadian wildfire smoke may also appear, starting Friday evening and lasting through Sunday, but the highest concentrations will remain north of our area. Highs will be in the upper 70s on Saturday, then warm slowly back to above normal levels by Sunday into Monday as low-level flow starts to descend the Laurel Highlands into early next week. Moisture levels look to continue to remain fairly low, and our large-scale pattern will only slowly evolve heading into the middle to end of next week. A disturbance may approach our region from the southwest by next Wednesday, resulting in an increase and clouds and a low chance of rain, but most long-range models and model ensembles don't have our next substantial chance of precipitation showing up until the second weekend of August. Plenty of sunshine today, tracking smokey return

Today: Few clouds, high 71 Tonight: Mostly clear, low 48 Monday: Sunny skies, high 79 (56) Tuesday: Sunny & warmer, high 85 (65) Wednesday: Clouds increasing, high 88 (68) Thursday: Showers/ t-storms, high 84 (67) Mainly sunny skies will be the primary theme for Sunday. With less smoke and clearer conditions this is going to be the better of the two weekend days. Temperatures to kick off the month of June are still going to lean on the cooler side only reaching the low 70s. Overnight continues the calm weather over the area. With a center of high pressure in the Ohio River Valley, winds will become very light. Very cool temperatures stick around with low temperatures in the upper 40s. This is about 10 degrees colder than it should be for this time of year. Much warmer conditions arrive by the start of the work week. Highs starting Monday will reach the upper 70s under mostly sunny skies. This will be the warmest day in central Ohio in over two weeks. Another round of Canadian wildfire smoke is forecast to move back into central Ohio by Monday evening. There will be moments through at least the first half the week that bring in thicker smoke plumes at times. This is all going to occur under mainly clear skies. Temperatures will increase every day through the middle of the week. By Wednesday highs are expected to reach the upper 80s. Next chance for showers and storms returns late Wednesday along a frontal boundary. This system will become stationary by the time is arrives to central Ohio. Rain continues through the end of the workweek and some of the weekend. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
