Hazy and cooler Sunday leads to a summer-like start to the work week!

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — We are keeping the cooler weather with us today, but don't be discouraged, as there is a warm-up in the forecast ahead! Overnight lows were a bit chilly, leading to a cooler start with temperatures into the upper 30s to low 40s area-wide. We had a beautiful sunrise thanks to some lingering wildfire smoke from the Canadian wildfires to our northwest. Today will be similar to Saturday, we still see the wildfire smoke in the sky, but it is higher in the atmosphere, which means we will see better air quality overall. Temperatures will remain on the cooler side as the sun can't warm us because of the smoky conditions aloft. Daytime highs get into the upper 60s to low 70s, which is still below average for this time of year. Don't be too upset about the cooler weather, because we will see a warm-up as we head into the upcoming work week. Daytime highs for Monday will reach the upper 70s to low 80s, with even warmer conditions into Tuesday with temps into the mid to upper 80s area-wide! Both days feature sunshine and a little bit of humidity, so as we kick off astronomical summer, we will surely feel like it as well. By Tuesday night into Wednesday, a cold front moves in and stalls, allowing for multiple chances of showers and storms. Heavier rain is possible through Wednesday and Thursday, and we could see anywhere between an inch to maybe two or more inches of rain, which could lead to some localized flooding. Keep an eye on the forecast as we iron out the details heading into the upcoming work week! Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Smoky skies continue, sprinkle possible Sunday

Tonight: Another comfortable and cool night is in store with lows making it into the upper 50s to lower 60s under those smoky skies with no cloud cover. Sunday: Expect continued haze from the Canadian wildfire smoke with a bit more late morning and afternoon cloud cover compared to Saturday. These clouds may squeeze out a few raindrops for some of us during the afternoon, otherwise we'll stay dry with highs in the low 80s. Sunday Night: A strong G4 geomagnetic storm will take place, sending the northern lights very far south. This event may compare to the March 2024 solar storm where many folks in northern Alabama could see them faintly on the horizon. However, one major limiting factor at play for us this time will be the continued milky, hazy sky from the Canadian wildfire smoke. The best viewing conditions will stay well to our north over parts of the Midwest, but some people in north Alabama far from any light pollution with very little smoke in the air may be able to see them just on the horizon. These are easier to see with your phone and harder to see with the naked eye. Next Week: The short-lived spell of lower humidity will be out of here by Monday as the muggier air begins to creep back in. However, any notable moisture will hold off until late week as surface high pressure keeps our skies full of sunshine through Wednesday. While skies will be sunny, expect the milky look to continue into at least Monday and possibly Tuesday from the wildfires up north. This will not make it to the surface and impact our air quality. A warming trend will take place, boosting high temperatures back into the upper 80s and nearing 90° for many of us come Wednesday and Thursday. This will bring our cooler overnights to an abrupt end with more warm, sticky mornings by the end of the week. Clouds and rain chances return for the end of the week, keeping highs in the closer to average in the middle to upper 80s. Storms will fire up in the heat of the afternoon on Thursday but remain very spotty so most of us stay dry. Friday and Saturday hold a more widespread threat for storms. Mostly sunny skies to continue, how long will the haze stick around?

Lots of sunshine today with some cool temperatures. The haze in the sky from the Canadian wildfires will stick with us into the work week, but not expected to have a major impact on air quality (most of the smoke is high up in the atmosphere). Tonight will be quiet with lows back in the mid 40s. Tomorrow highs will be in the mid 70s with mostly sunny skies. Sunshine will continue Monday and Tuesday with a ridge building in, bringing summer like weather early into June. We will see a chance of storms late Wednesday, with most of the activity coming overnight as a slow moving cold front approaches the area. Thursday is the best chance to see rain this week, as that front stays stalled. The cold front will move through going into Friday with highs dropping back into the mid 70s and another chance of rain. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Storm Center AM Update: Smoke and Warmth Hangs Around

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It has been a quiet start to the morning for most of us in KELOLAND. Showers with an isolated rumble of thunder have developed in eastern South Dakota, but those will diminish going into the mid morning hours. Another warm day is ahead in KELOLAND as a ridge continues to move eastward. Highs will stay above average in the 70s and 80s with winds staying on the lighter side East River. While there will be plenty of sunshine, the blue skies will be covered with haze as Canadian wildfire smoke sinks southward. Thicker smoke is expected to arrive by this afternoon, while most of it will be at cloud level, it could reach the surface at times in northern and eastern South Dakota. Smoke could reach the surface in the Sioux Falls area by Sunday. While the hazy skies hang around, we will still stay seasonable for temperatures into the overnight hours. Winds will continue to stay light into tomorrow with an even warmer day in store. Highs will climb into the mid to upper 80s on Sunday and the heat will stay for Monday. The dry and hot weather will begin to come to an end as a cold front moves through. This will create instability for showers and thunderstorms by the late afternoon that will push eastward into the evening. Some of these storms could be strong to severe with the main threat being large hail and strong wind gusts. By Tuesday we will begin to see temperatures cool back into the 60s and 70s. As we head into next weekend, highs look to get back to above average. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
