Skipton claim rare Aire-Wharfe victory as Steeton win big
SKIPTON have won their third game of the season in Aire-Wharfe League Division Two, becoming the latest side to take advantage of faltering Rodley.
Sent in at Canal Bank, the second-from-bottom visitors made 224-7, with skipper Joe Birks (29) putting on 50 for the second wicket with his dad Malcolm (66).
Then Rob Walker (40) added 69 for the fourth with Birks Snr and Skipton had something to defend.
The visitors then had the handy knack of taking wickets at regular intervals as Rodley were dismissed for 158, Shahid Nadeem making up for his early dismissal by taking 3-20 off 12.1 overs, Finlay Walker backing him up with 4-56.
Steeton recorded a very similar first-innings total at home to Pool in the Premier Division, making 228-8 after winning the toss.
Tremaine Dowrich (38) and Luke Chapman (64) set off them off on the right foot with a partnership of 64, and James Robinson (32) then put on 57 for the fourth wicket with Chapman, who was sixth out at 177.
Skipper Steve Pearson (34no) ensured that the score went beyond 200 and, although Pool's top five all made double figures, they went from 101-2 to 124-6 and were eventually all out for 156.
Pearson completed a good day personally with 5-38, Dowrich taking 3-26 as Steeton stayed fifth in a congested upper-mid table.
