Tragedy in Lee County: Family of Four Killed in North Carolina Plane Crash
A devastating small-plane crash in Lee County, North Carolina, claimed the lives of a family of four on Monday afternoon, authorities confirmed.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol identified the victims as:
Travis Buchanan, 35
Candice Buchanan, 35
Aubrey Buchanan, 10
Walker Buchanan, 9
According to officials, three members of the family died at the scene. The fourth was transported to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
The aircraft — a Cirrus SR22 — went down in a remote field off Lower Moncure Road, north of Sanford. The crash site's location, well off the roadway, posed challenges for emergency crews trying to reach the wreckage.
It remains unclear where the plane departed from or where it was headed. Both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
