Griggs secures silver medal at European Under-23s
Nick Griggs has picked up a silver medal in the men's 5,000m at the European Under-23 Championships in Bergen, Norway. The 20-year-old Irish athlete clocked a time of 13:45.80 in finishing second to Niels Laros of the Netherlands (13:44.74) in Saturday's final. Great Britain's Will Barnicoat was third in 13;46.11. Griggs, from county Tyrone, has previously medalled at the European Under-20 Championships, bursting into the public consciousness by winning gold in the 3000m in Tallinn in 2021 as a 16-year-old and silver over the same distance in Jerusalem two years later. The Candour Track Club runner collected a superb silver medal in the under-23 race at the European Cross Country Championships in Antalya in December but his efforts were subsequently severely hampered by illness as he missed out on the indoor season. Prior to that, the outstanding young talent clocked huge personal bests at 3,000m and 5,000m last summer, in addition to bettering his 1500m time. Griggs is a three-time European Cross Country individual medallist.

Nick Griggs wins silver at European U23 Championships
NICK GRIGGS HAS won another medal for Ireland at the European U23 Championships in Norway. The Tyrone 20-year-old secured silver in the 5000m in a time of 13:45.80. Netherlands' Niels Laros stormed to victory in 13:44.74. Advertisement It's Griggs' latest achievement as he continues a stunning underage career. The Candour Track Club star won U23 silver at the European Cross Country Championships in Turkey last December, adding to his U20 bronze from the previous edition. He also set the all-time record for Parkrun last year, having also had some memorable days on the track. Griggs' Candour training partner, Callum Morgan, finished 10th in 13:53.18, while Abdel Laadjel withdrew before the start of the race.
