It appears fans are in for another long wait as the Dallas Cowboys drag out talks with Micah Parsons on a contract extension despite all the information telling them the deal should be done. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO — Fans waited every passing day of last summer for the Dallas Cowboys to lock in contract extensions for Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Both obvious moves on the team's part, but Dallas never veered of course and paid both players at the eleventh hour. Advertisement There was a laser focus on both players' situations at the time. Anyone taking a step back, however, could have predicted the same thing happening a year later when defensive star Micah Parsons was due his own contract extension. Flash forward and the exact same situation has unfolded at The Star. Through the first week of June, the Cowboys have no progress with Parsons and have yet to play nice with his agent to get the ball rolling on this front. While the saga continues, it becomes more obvious by the day that Parsons deserves his new deal and probably deserved it months ago. Tom Blair at continues to drive the campaign, listing Parsons as one of the veterans most deserving of a raise heading into next season. Advertisement "Just three guys since 1960 have collected 50-plus sacks, nine-plus passes defensed and nine-plus forced fumbles in their first four pro seasons, and Parsons is one of them. The other two: Hall of Famer DeMarcus Ware and imminent Hall of Famer J.J. Watt." That is just one stat that illustrates the trajectory that Parsons is currently on. One would think that such mention with another Cowboy great like Ware and the Canton-bound Watt would make this more of a glaring point. Nonetheless, the Cowboys are choosing to play this their way. Even if another defensive star or nonquarterback resets the market, they are content waiting until they are ready. DeMarcus Ware, Micah Parsons And The CowboysBy Tony Fisher Will that wait last as long as Prescott's hours before Week 1 kickoff raise from September? Hopefully not. But the bottom line remains the same: Parsons is deserving of a massive contract extension and remains within his right to fight for a pay day. Charlie Batch Happy Steelers' Will Howard Learning From Bench

Charlie Batch Happy Steelers' Will Howard Learning From Bench originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch knows a thing or two about backing up a Canton-bound quarterback. He spent nine years backing up Steelers icon Ben Roethlisberger and ultimately watched him win a Super Bowl. Advertisement As such, he has a perspective that sixth-round quarterback Will Howard could use after Thursday's news. Pittsburgh finally ended its quarterback drama by signing veteran Aaron Rodgers on a one-year deal that is as much about redemption as it is saying goodbye. With a playoff-ready roster and an esteemed head coach, the organization has the talent to give Rodgers one more shot at playoff contention. On 'Up & Adams,' the former Steelers quarterback was happy to see Howard sitting, primarily because it eliminates the pressure of expectations. Batch spoke to Kay Adams before Rodgers put pen to paper. "They want to make sure he is learning from the pocket first and then from there allow everything else to kind of materialize," Batch said. "There's not a lot of pressure on Will at this particular point, and that's the one thing that he has an advantage of. Because all he has to do is put his head in the playbook, go out there and get the job done, where everybody else is being talked about." Advertisement With Mason Rudolph atop the depth chart before the Rodgers signing, there was a real chance that Howard would see playing time in 2025. Pittsburgh has been able to churn out competent teams with bottom-barrel quarterbacking before, but thrusting Howard into a starting role with playoff expectations would be harsh. Now, Howard can comfortably embrace his role as the third quarterback while soaking up all he can from one of the game's smartest quarterbacks. Batch suggested that in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's offense, Howard is a promising fit, given his proclivity for helping in the run game. "We know the mindset of Arthur Smith," Batch said. "He wants to run the football, and sometimes the quarterback has to pull the ball down on some designed runs that you actually have to use your legs and get the job done. So those are things that are gonna play itself out, but that's kind of down the line." Advertisement The Steelers seem to be gearing up for a franchise quarterback in 2026. But with a year of experience and a season's worth of seasoning from Rodgers, Howard could find himself with the upper hand in a quarterback competition next season. Jets Winners of Rodgers' Final Pivot

Jets Winners of Rodgers' Final Pivot originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In hiring head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey, the New York Jets have made an intentional step toward both competency and a full-scale cultural reset. 'All gas, no brake' ran out of fuel, and quarterback Aaron Rodgers' hopes of landing a spot on the 2025 roster went down with it. Advertisement Regardless of how well Rodgers performed in 2024, his presence was always going to be incompatible with Glenn's vision. New York needed a reset, and did so by releasing Rodgers and signing Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal. That left the Pittsburgh Steelers without a starting quarterback, and as options flew off the board, Rodgers became the favorite to fill that gap. And then he took three months to put pen to paper. On Thursday, Adam Schefter reported that Rodgers will sign a one-year deal with Pittsburgh. 'Steelers never wavered in their belief that Aaron Rodgers would eventually sign with Pittsburgh,' Schefter wrote. 'Steelers HC Mike Tomlin loomed large in this entire situation. Tomlin was a drawing card for Rodgers, and was happy to work within Rodgers' timeline. He is a major reason that Rodgers will be a Steeler.' Advertisement Signing with the Steelers this late in the offseason only makes the new-look Jets look smarter. Rodgers will be in Pittsburgh for mandatory minicamp after missing the earlier offseason workouts and (presumably) operating without offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's playbook. That's more likely to have tangible impacts on the less-experienced players trying to get on the same page than the Canton-bound quarterback, but it is a small hurdle nonetheless. It's also one New York may benefit from. The Jets will host Rodgers and the Steelers in Week 1, offering a revenge game for both Fields, who was benched by Pittsburgh, and Rodgers, who went public about his brief meeting with New York's brass. The Steelers are currently field goal favorites. The Jets could have signed up for one more year of Rodgers and given Glenn a known quantity under center, a veteran presence whose steady hand could keep things somewhat on track. But by making the right decision, New York landed the quarterback Pittsburgh would have preferred and destined another team to the circus that is Rodgers on and off the field. Advertisement Rodgers may very well find success with the Steelers, but removing themselves from his orbit is a win in itself, and it reflects well upon the new administration. Seahawks will see multiple familiar faces in Week 9 showdown against Commanders

Seahawks will see multiple familiar faces in Week 9 showdown against Commanders "Revenge" seems to be a theme for the 2025 Seattle Seahawks, and will continue to be one of the major storylines throughout the regular season. Seattle already has several "revenge" games on the dockett. Sam Darnold will face the Minnesota Vikings. The Seahawks secondary will have to defend against DK Metcalf on the Steelers and Tyler Lockett on the Titans. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak must attack his former team, the New Orleans Saints. And wide receiver Cooper Kupp will have two games against the LA Rams - the team he won a Super Bowl MVP award with. But there will be another revenge game slated for the Seahawks. In Week 9, Seattle will travel to the east coast for a Sunday Night Football showdown against the Washington Commanders. There, they will play against a pair of familiar faces: Future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner, and head coach Dan Quinn. Quinn and Wagner will forever be made men when it comes to the City of Seattle. Wagner of course created a legacy of being inarguably the best linebacker during the 2010's and of all time... all while wearing the neon and navy of the Seahawks. Who helped Wagner reach these heights? Dan Quinn, who was his defensive coordinator during Seattle's Super Bowl runs in 2013 and 2014. When Wagner was first released by the Seahawks, it was on less than ceremonious terms. The Seahawks released Wagner and were not able to reach him to inform him of the move. General manager John Schneider and then-head coach Pete Carroll owned the mistake, apologized, and clearly mended fences with the Canton-bound linebacker as he did come home to the Seahawks for the 2023 season. Wagner's second departure from Seattle was a much less acrimonious situation, but I am more than certain he would love to hand his former team a defeat to remind them they should have kept him around for a little bit longer. As for Quinn, he left the Seahawks willingly to become the head coach for the Atlanta Falcons. However, he was interviewed by Seattle - twice - after they moved on from Pete Carroll, but obviously decided to hire Mike Macdonald instead. I'm equally sure Quinn would also love to prove to his former team he was worthy of another chance in the Pacific Northwest. All this to say, both sides have Week 9 circled on their calendars and are eagerly awaiting this prime opportunity.
