Seahawks will see multiple familiar faces in Week 9 showdown against Commanders
"Revenge" seems to be a theme for the 2025 Seattle Seahawks, and will continue to be one of the major storylines throughout the regular season. Seattle already has several "revenge" games on the dockett. Sam Darnold will face the Minnesota Vikings. The Seahawks secondary will have to defend against DK Metcalf on the Steelers and Tyler Lockett on the Titans. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak must attack his former team, the New Orleans Saints. And wide receiver Cooper Kupp will have two games against the LA Rams - the team he won a Super Bowl MVP award with.
But there will be another revenge game slated for the Seahawks. In Week 9, Seattle will travel to the east coast for a Sunday Night Football showdown against the Washington Commanders. There, they will play against a pair of familiar faces:
Future Hall of Fame linebacker Bobby Wagner, and head coach Dan Quinn.
Quinn and Wagner will forever be made men when it comes to the City of Seattle. Wagner of course created a legacy of being inarguably the best linebacker during the 2010's and of all time... all while wearing the neon and navy of the Seahawks. Who helped Wagner reach these heights? Dan Quinn, who was his defensive coordinator during Seattle's Super Bowl runs in 2013 and 2014.
When Wagner was first released by the Seahawks, it was on less than ceremonious terms. The Seahawks released Wagner and were not able to reach him to inform him of the move. General manager John Schneider and then-head coach Pete Carroll owned the mistake, apologized, and clearly mended fences with the Canton-bound linebacker as he did come home to the Seahawks for the 2023 season. Wagner's second departure from Seattle was a much less acrimonious situation, but I am more than certain he would love to hand his former team a defeat to remind them they should have kept him around for a little bit longer.
As for Quinn, he left the Seahawks willingly to become the head coach for the Atlanta Falcons. However, he was interviewed by Seattle - twice - after they moved on from Pete Carroll, but obviously decided to hire Mike Macdonald instead. I'm equally sure Quinn would also love to prove to his former team he was worthy of another chance in the Pacific Northwest.
All this to say, both sides have Week 9 circled on their calendars and are eagerly awaiting this prime opportunity.

That was an opinion shared by much of the Eagles contingent. Remember... This is a microwave society. But a chain reaction occurred. Philadelphia hired Vic Fangio as its defensive coordinator. Nolan Smith is no longer a secret weapon after his latest national praise Year two for Nolan Smith finally delivered to Birds fans what they had hoped for since the announcement of his selection on April 27, 2023. He had gone from a special-teams player to starting ten of 16 in-game appearances during the regular season. His 188 defensive snaps were roughly 16% of the Eagles' total in 2023. He churned out 546 a season ago, suitable for 55% of the total a year later. The results speak for themselves. During the 2024-25 NFL regular season, Nolan stacked 42 tackles, 6.5 sacks, two pass breakups, and a forced fumble. The momentum carried into the playoffs, and he got better, churning out 16 tackles, four sacks, and another forced fumble. His four sacks and four tackles for loss both led all players in the postseason. Nolan started every game of Philadelphia's march to Super Bowl glory. Now comes the question. What does he do for an encore? CBS Sports' Garrett Podell is expecting more fireworks. Smith was named as the one player from the Eagles' roster who could make a surprising impact. "Smith flashed in the 2024 playoffs, co-leading the league in sacks (4) while ranking second in quarterback pressures (19) behind only Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter (22)... Following edge rusher Josh Sweat's departure to the Arizona Cardinals and edge rusher Brandon Graham's retirement, Smith is an unquestioned starter for the first time entering his third NFL season. He now has a chance to transform from a player with tantalizing potential to a real star in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's scheme in 2025." It's hard to disagree with the sentiment. Vic Fangio has unlocked something. There's a lot of talent here. Might Coach Fangio find more ways to deploy him? Eagles legend Brandon Graham offered some brotherly advice. Nolan took it to heart. He has made the most of an expanded role. Let this be a lesson to those of you who were a little impatient. Quarterbacks aren't the only players who need reps and a little patience.

6 Broncos greats who should go into the Ring of Fame next With the Denver Broncos' recent announcement of Demaryius Thomas going into the team's Ring of Fame, there should be some discussion of who should go into the Broncos Ring of Fame next. We take a look at the next five worthy candidates. Note that players must wait at least five years after retirement and have played for the Broncos for at least four seasons to be eligible. 1. Ed McCaffrey The former Broncos receiver was one of the toughest players in franchise history. One of the biggest surprises is that McCaffrey isn't in the Ring of Fame yet. As one of the primary pass-catchers for Denver during the Super Bowl-winning years in 1997 and 1998, McCaffrey played in Denver for nine years (1995-2003), recording 462 receptions for 6,200 yards and 46 touchdowns. The fact that he's produced an All-Pro running back as a son in Christian McCaffrey and is a Colorado lifer should say something as well. McCaffrey was inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame in 2022; the next logical space for McCaffrey should be on the Level 5 facade of Empower Field at Mile High. 2. Al Wilson Wilson played for the Broncos from 1999-2006, earning five Pro Bowl selections as well as first- (2005) and second-team (2006) All-Pro nods. His 723 tackles rank eighth on the team's all-time list. Wilson had a falling out with the team over the handling of a neck injury near the end of his career, but the two sides have since mended their relationship. He should now go into the club's Ring of Fame. 3. Von Miller While Miller is still an active player, there is no doubt that Miller will one day be a Ring of Famer, and very likely, a Pro Football Hall of Famer. Miller is the Broncos' all-time leader in sacks (110.5) and was the MVP of Super Bowl 50, and he's a two-time Super Bowl champion. Miller was a Bronco for 10 seasons, and he will always be beloved in Denver. 4. Chris Harris Harris is a Broncos success story as an undrafted free agent. Harris defined the slot corner position for many years, and was one of the original anchors of the "No-Fly Zone" defense that helped Denver to a victory in Super Bowl 50. In nine seasons with the Broncos, Harris started 121 games, totaling 518 tackles (443 solo, 75 assisted), recovering four fumbles, forcing six fumbles, 86 pass deflections and intercepting 20 passes (including four returned for touchdowns). Harris was a Pat Bowlen player, one of the highest compliments one could receive. 5. Ryan Clady Clady was one of the offensive lineman mainstays for the Broncos from the time he was drafted out of Boise State (12th overall) in 2008 until 2014. Clady was the blindside protector for several Broncos quarterbacks (Kyle Orton, Tim Tebow and Peyton Manning), starting 106 games for Denver. A four-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro, Clady was named second runner-up for the 2008 AP Offensive Player of the Year, an award most linemen could never even dream about touching. Clady has been eligible for Ring of Fame status since 2021. 6. Matt Prater This one could be considered controversial. Prater is still an active kicker, and is an unrestricted free agent in 2025. Prater first came to the Broncos in 2007, playing for Denver from 2007-2014. Prater was an extremely reliable kicker during his time in Mile High, benefiting from the thin Colorado air. A two-time Pro Bowler, Prater is the current NFL leader in kicks attempted (487), extra points attempted (603) and extra points made (587). During the Broncos' historic offensive season in 2013, Prater set a then-NFL record with a 64-yard field goal. Prater's time in Denver came to an ignominious ending in 2014 when he was cut for a suspension from the NFL for abusing the league's substance abuse policy, but his time with the club was historic. He holds the NFL record for field goals made over 50 yards (81) and is fourth on the Broncos' all-time scoring list. Who else should be on this list, modern or classic? History was made in the Storm-Mercury game, too, with former WNBA Most Valuable Player Nneka Ogwumike marking another historic career milestone. The league took to social media to announce that Ogwumike has climbed to the No. 8 spot in the WNBA's all-time steals list with 628. This is yet another feather added to Ogwumike's cap as the 6-foot-2 forward continues to rewrite the WNBA history books. Ogwumike, 34, has nine All-Star nods to her name, seven All-Defensive team appearances, a seven-time All-WNBA forward and, of course, has a WNBA title under her belt. Advertisement Ogwumike is off to a strong start to the season as well, averaging 16.5 points on 50.0% shooting, 9.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals entering Saturday's game against the Mercury. Seattle will need their star to be at her best again this season as it looks to compete for a playoff spot. The Storm headed into Saturday's matchup with a 4-4 record, and they haven't exactly established themselves as one of the strongest contenders for this year's title. However, if Ogwumike is able to keep her foot on the gas, it would be foolish to count the Storm out.
