Padraig Harrington heading into Rogers Charity Classic on a golf roll
Padraig Harrington is coming in hot to the 2025 Rogers Charity Classic. Article content Just 10 days after becoming only the fifth player in history to win both editions of the Open — the British Open and the Senior British Open — the golf legend tries to keep his success rolling in Calgary at the PGA Tour Champions event, Aug. 11-17. Article content His return marks a third visit to the high-profile event hosted by Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club. Article content Article content 'Calgary is very well known amongst the players as one of the better weeks of the year, so I definitely wanted to come back,' said Harrington, who headlined the 2024 World Golf Hall of Fame induction class last June. Article content Article content 'This event has raised great money over the years, and the community comes out and supports it, which is always so important for an event. The golf course is very pleasant, the greens are excellent, and my game has been in great shape, so I am looking forward to the week.' Article content Harrington joined an exclusive club of Darren Clarke, Tom Watson, Gary Player and Bob Charles as the only men to win both editions of the Open, after scoring his third major championship title on the PGA Tour Champions in July at the ISPS Handa Senior Open. He also won his second Senior US Open in June this year. His first capture of the Senior US Open came in 2022. Article content Article content Not only was Harrington the first player from Ireland to win the Claret Jug in 60 years (2007), but he was also the first European to successfully defend his British Open title in nearly a century the following summer (2008). The six-time Ryder Cup European team member added his third major title to his resume when he also won the 2008 PGA Championship which brought him to third in the Official World Golf Rankings. Article content An 11-time winner on the PGA Tour Champions, the Irishman brings 41 professional victories worldwide with him to the Rogers Charity Classic, where his best finish was tied for third in 2022. Article content 'This is a huge win for our tournament, golf fans in Alberta and most importantly the Calgary community,' said Rogers Charity Classic executive director Sean Van Kesteren. 'Padraig brings legendary status to our event. He is back to playing some of the best golf of his career and is currently sitting second in the Charles Schwab Cup standings with his two major wins this year.
