Full list of all the bus fares that have risen in Wales
Across Wales transport services have announced a rise in prices due to financial pressures affecting the companies. Passengers are left having to pay more for their journeys as the bus companies are having to pay more to provide the services. Multiple bus companies throughout the country have increased within the first three months of this year. First Bus, Stagecoach and Cardiff Bus have increased the prices whilst TrawsCymru changed the way they charge passengers. Adventure Travel also announced that "due to the impact of NI increases on the company" they increased their C1 bus short hope fare to £2 from March 31, but have chosen to freeze other charges. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here READ MORE: 'Our Welsh village was absolutely brilliant. Now we feel let down and forgotten' READ MORE: Drivers warned as eight road closures to hit the M4 Since March 2, TrawsCymru changed their services, allowing passengers to pay depending on how far they travel. Adult single tickets on select services now start at £1.50 and are capped at £4, meaning that no passenger will pay than £4. Read further detail on the new system here. In February, Stagecoach South Wales announced that some fares would see an increase whilst others were reduced or left unchanged. The desicion to change the fare prices comes as managing director, Martin Gibbon, claimed that they are absorbing price increases but the change of fares "reflect the current climate" and are a "necessity to keep our services running across the region." The bus operator increased adult single fares on average by 25p, while adult dayrider fares increased on average by 56p. However, adult single fares from Cwmbran to Newport and Pontypridd to Cardiff were reduced by 50p and 80p respectively to a new fare of £3.50. Read the full details of the change here. First Bus increased the prices of their fares this month as the operator faced 'higher costs'. The cost of single tickets will remain the same from Sunday, March 30 whilst the price of a day ticket will increase by £1 for adults and a three-day ticket will go up by £2.50. Read more about the changes here. Rob Pymm, commercial director for First Bus in Wales, said: 'Our changes in fares come at a time when we're continuing to invest in our services, including last autumn when we were able to restore some services, add extra journeys, and extend routes across south Wales. While we, like many businesses, continue to face higher costs we've worked hard to minimise the increases to ensure bus travel remains the cheapest and most sustainable form of transport." Also from Sunday, March 30, Cardiff Bus has increased its fares across the network as it grapples with 'cost pressures'. The firm recently announced that it was impacted by "several cost pressures" that will see passengers paying more to travel. Read more about it here. Cardiff Bus wrote: "We are seeing several cost pressures on running our services and we are therefore having to revising prices of our tickets from March 30, 2025. Costs are rising across all areas of our operation which are outside of our control, for example forthcoming changes to National Employer Contributions. "These changes mean we must review our prices to remain sustainable and continue to provide our network of services. We can, and do, as much as possible to minimise any cost rises as we recognise the impact price changes have for our customers."
