Sold-out fundraiser in Corning raises money for CareFirstNY
CORNING, N.Y. (WETM) — A sold-out brunch fundraiser with more than 100 attendees helps raise money for CareFirstNY. Elmira Heights fundraiser supports high school student diagnosed with cancer The fundraiser, Brunch in Bloom, was held at The Pines event venue in Corning. It featured a brunch buffet and community-donated items from local businesses around Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben Counties. Patrons purchased tickets in hopes of winning some of the raffled items and took part in a live auction which helped provide additional funding. Kate Fuller, Marketing and Communications Specialist of CareFirstNY, mentioned the event covering funding shortages for the organization. 'Types of events like this that fundraise help us support that care for people who may not be able to afford it are underinsured or uninsured,' Fuller said. 'It's really about helping people live their remaining days to the absolute fullest. It's about building a community of care around people in our region.' 'I think it's wonderful that so many local businesses have been as generous as they have been so many people have purchased raffle tickets which will be more money to go toward CareFirst,' said attendee Jane Fastiggi. According to Fuller, more than $10,000 has been raised, and the money will go towards hospice care, grief support, and mental health counseling services. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. CareFirstNY CEO dies after sudden medical emergency
CORNING, N.Y. (WETM) — The CEO of a Southern Tier nonprofit for more than 12 years died on Monday after a medical emergency, according to an announcement from the organization. Tali Sutton, the CEO of CareFirstNY, a nonprofit hospice and mental health service provider, died on Monday, Feb 3, the organization said in a statement on Wednesday. Tali's belief in CareFirstNY, her authenticity, and her friendship created a bright light that united many people across our region. As a leader, Tali instilled a passionate culture of understanding, positivity, and trust that will be deeply missed. Statement from CareFirstNY St. James Hospital to add ICU rooms Sutton was an organ donor and will pass along her final gift of life to others in need, the organization said. Sutton's reach touched those outside CareFirstNY as she volunteered for numerous other organizations in the Southern Tier. Condolences from Elmira Downtown Development, Fund for Women of the Southern Tier, Family Services Society, and so many others were shared on Facebook on Wednesday, describing the kind of person Sutton was and what she meant to the community.
