CareSource and Three Square Food Bank unite to tackle hunger in Southern Nevada
Three Square honored with Heart of Community Award and monetary donation Three Square Community Kitchen CareSource employees volunteer at Three Square LAS VEGAS, May 22, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, CareSource Nevada, a nonprofit managed care organization recently selected to implement Nevada's Medicaid Managed Care Program, awarded Three Square Food Bank a $10,000 donation and a Heart of the Community Award. The award, recognizing exceptional commitment to improving health and well-being in communities, was presented during a volunteer event at Three Square's headquarters, where more than 100 CareSource team members packed hundreds of meals and grocery product for the one in six Southern Nevadans facing hunger. CareSource's volunteer efforts and financial support reflect a shared commitment to addressing food insecurity and enhancing the well-being of underserved Nevadans through the consideration of social determinants of health. 'With prices going up and more people struggling to make ends meet, the need for food assistance in our community keeps growing,' said Beth Martino, president and CEO of Three Square. 'Thanks to partners like CareSource, we can keep helping more people and stay focused on our mission to make sure everyone has dignified access to the food they need. Together, we're making a real difference.' Food insecurity remains a significant challenge across Southern Nevada, with 16% of Clark County residents experiencing limited access to nutritious food. In the rural counties of Esmeralda, Lincoln, and Nye, also served by Three Square, rates range from 13.6% to 21.94%. To fully meet the need, an estimated 57.8 million additional meals are required annually to close the gap left by federal nutrition programs and charitable resources. 'At CareSource, we believe health care goes beyond doctor visits; it's about building a healthier foundation for life,' said Jayme Puu, chief executive officer, CareSource Nevada. 'The donation and volunteering we provided to Three Square today are just the beginning of our long-term investment in Nevada's families.' ### CareSource Nevada CareSource Nevada Co. CareSource collaborates with Creating Healthier Communities to improve maternal health outcomes in Georgia
ATLANTA, April 24, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — CareSource, a nationally recognized nonprofit managed care organization serving more than 430,000 Georgians, has awarded CHC: Creating Healthier Communities (CHC) with a $100,000 grant to support the expansion of the Black Birthing Initiative (BBI) in Georgia. This collaboration aims to address maternal health gaps for Black moms and decrease preterm births in the state by providing holistic, non-clinical support services such as access to food and housing, doula care and perinatal education. 'Every woman deserves an opportunity to safe and healthy childbirth, yet we know that Black women in Georgia face a maternal health crisis that deeply impacts their families and communities,' shared Dr. Nguyen, market chief medical officer at CareSource Georgia. 'By investing in and collaborating with dedicated providers and community partners like Creating Healthier Communities, we can create meaningful change. Together, we are committed to uplifting the health and well-being of mothers and their babies, ensuring that every family has the support they need to thrive.' Georgia faces one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the nation, with Black women being twice as likely to die from pregnancy-related complications compared to white women. However, more than 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable with improved access to quality care and timely interventions. Providing expectant mothers with essential resources and innovative support models has been shown to reduce complications and enhance birth experiences, especially in underserved communities. This collaboration between CareSource and CHC integrates access to clinical care and social resources to drive better maternal health outcomes. The CareSource grant will help expand access to doula services, providing Black moms with emotional, physical and informational support throughout pregnancy, labor and postpartum. This funding will also support doula training, enhancing the workforce to meet the growing demand for these services. 'We are grateful for CareSource's support, which enables us to expand our reach and strengthen our efforts to combat maternal health disparities in Georgia,' said Valerie Rochester, Chief Health Equity & Impact Officer at CHC. 'Supporting Black mothers with comprehensive, quality care is key to ensuring healthier moms, stronger babies and thriving communities.' Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia, a key partner in the BBI, emphasizes the importance of support in improving maternal health. 'Culturally competent care during the prenatal and postpartum period is essential, not just for improving health outcomes, but for ensuring birthing people feel heard, supported and empowered,' said Kimberly Seals, Executive Director of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies. 'Expanding access to perinatal support professionals, such as doulas, strengthens the entire care continuum by providing advocacy, emotional and physical support, and guidance that complements medical care. This approach not only improves birth experiences but also fosters trust in the health care system, particularly for communities that have historically faced disparities in maternal care.' Since its launch in January 2022, BBI has achieved significant outcomes including: 91% of BBI participants birthed full term 77.5% no longer struggle with food insecurity 84.2% received housing support 90.2% report reduced stress due to the program The initiative is projected to sustain at least an 80% full-term birth rate of those enrolled in the program. Dayton woman gets prison sentence for $1.5 million theft from Medicaid
Apr. 18—A Dayton woman who had been banned from being a Medicaid provider will be serving six to nine years in prison for stealing $1.5 million from Medicaid. "Some thieves don't know when to quit," Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said. "The investigators and prosecutors in our Health Care Fraud Section did a great job of putting a stop to this costly scheme." Janay Corbitt, 36, pleaded guilty last month to second-degree felony theft and three third-degree felony counts of identity fraud. In addition to the prison sentence, she must pay $1.5 million in restitution. Corbitt was previously licensed as chemical dependency counselor assistant by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, first from March 2015 to April 2016 and then again from April 2017 to April 2019. A previous theft conviction in 2019 had barred her from the Medicaid program. Corbitt had been convicted of fifth-degree felony theft in Franklin County, and she was ordered to five years of probation. She also had to pay restitution to CareSource, a Dayton-based health insurer that primarily serves Medicaid members. For this most recent case, Corbitt was indicted in May 2024 after an investigation by Yost's office revealed that she stole multiple identities to open and operate two sham behavioral-health-counseling agencies in the Dayton area. Corbitt also stole the identities of several licensed counselors, using their credentials to bill Medicaid for services that were never provided, the attorney general's office said. Law enforcement caught up to Corbitt in Dallas, Texas, where authorities arrested Corbitt in August 2024 at a bus stop. She previously fled Ohio and spent months as a fugitive. Attorneys with Yost's Health Care Fraud Section prosecuted the case in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. The Ohio Medicaid Fraud Control Unit receives 75% of its funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under a grant award of about $15.3 million for federal fiscal year 2025. The remaining 25%, or $5.1 million, is funded by the Ohio Attorney General's Office.
