Andhra govt restarts special coaching in municipal schools: Extra classes to help students succeed in NEET and JEE

VIJAYAWADA: In a move to make the students from municipal schools compete with their peers in private schools in urban areas, the state govt has decided to relaunch Advanced Foundation Course (AFC) and Career Foundation Course (CFC) programmes. The schemes implemented comprehensive training to the children studying in public schools to grab the seats in prestigious institutions such as IIIT and also focus on their career building. The schemes, which were implemented during previous TDP regime between 2014-19, were abandoned by the subsequent YSRCP govt. 'The decision to restart AFC and CFC is a revolutionary step for the sustainability of municipal schools. It is going to benefit the children particularly from economically challenged sections,' said Municipal Teachers Federation (MTF) state president Somarouthu Ramakrishna. He said that the schemes helped thousands of students study in the municipal schools and bag seats in the prestigious institutions in the past. The CFC programme was designed as remedial teaching from 4pm to 5pm. This allows students, who are found to be lagging, to get another chance to listen to the lessons for the second time and understand the subjects. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Apply for NRI Account Online HSBC Undo The teachers would dedicate additional hours to taking the second round of teaching the already completed lessons to help the children overcome stress. 'After completion of the course, exams were conducted using OMR sheets, which were scanned to quickly achieve results. This will enable the teachers to assess the performance of the students and make additional efforts to slow-learners to understand the curriculum,' said Ramakrishna. Similarly, the state govt will identify specific schools as IIT schools to introduce the AFC programme. These schools will be operated from 8 am to 7 pm. The meritorious students from municipal schools will be given an opportunity to access the more comprehensive study materials provided in the private corporate schools to make them prepare well for the Neet and JEE. About 17 municipal schools were designated as AFC schools in the past and achieved remarkable results. 'Admissions in municipal schools are increasing significantly. The number of students grew from 2.45 lakh to 4 lakh. This trend is expected to continue, leading to a substantial increase in student numbers thanks to the introduction of CFC and AFC programmes,' observed Ramakrishna. He said that two or three additional sections will need to be established in these schools. He thanked chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, municipal minister Dr Narayana and HRD minister Lokesh for relaunching AFC and CFC programmes.
